Nathaniel Clyne Officially Completes Transfer to Liverpool

Rory MarsdenJun 25, 2015

Nathaniel Clyne completed his move to Liverpool on a long-term deal on July 1.

The Anfield club confirmed the signing of the 24-year-old from Southampton via their official Twitter.

ESPN FC reported on June 27 Liverpool and Southampton had agreed to a £15 million deal that would send the right-back to Anfield. While the transfer won't see the Saints receive all the money up front, they will reach the target price if Clyne meets certain performance milestones.

Clyne should be a vast improvement on the now-departed Glen Johnson as Liverpool's right-back, and he joins a list of summer arrivals at Anfield that also includes Roberto Firmino, James Milner and Danny Ings.

The England right-back should be a fine asset for the long term at Anfield, per Yahoo Sports' Chris McHardy:

However, expectations must be tempered after Clyne's arrival at Liverpool. He is still learning his trade at the top level, and previous movers from Southampton to Liverpool have underwhelmed recently—see Dejan Lovren, Rickie Lambert and Adam Lallana.

Brendan Rodgers seems to be going the right way about returning his squad to title-challenging quality, but his new signings will take time to bed in and may not come good immediately.
