Young Indians Fan Taunts Miguel Cabrera, Makes New Best Friend

Dan CarsonJun 24, 2015

A young hero stepped up for the Cleveland Indians during Tuesday night's 7-3 loss to the Detroit Tigers.

Ungloved and possibly unsupervised, a kid sitting in the first base stands leaned out and snagged a Jason Kipnis foul ball with his hat in the bottom of the fifth.

Sensing the flagging morale at Progressive Field, the child immediately began flaunting his grab to Miguel Cabrera, likely in the hopes of rallying the troops.

I had some guesses as to what this young man said to Miggy. The phrases "Come at me, bro,"  "You washed!" and "Do you even shift?" came to mind.

But according to CBS Detroit, the young fan is an 11-year-old named Dominic, and he wasn't trying to beef with Cabrera.

Dominic spoke to Detroit's 97.1 The Ticket on Wednesday morning and explained his exchange with the Tigers first baseman. It started with him telling a bored Cabrera he'd help him out at first base.

"He looked bored at first so I yelled, 'Hey Miggy, I got your back,'" Dominic said. "And then he smiles over [at] me."

Later in the game, Dominic backed up his words.

"The pitcher throws the pitch and Kipnis hits a chopper right to me," Dominic said. "It was hopping and hopping, and I just grab my hat and I just swipe it and I pick it right up and then I tell Miggy, 'Miggy, I got your back, I told you!'"

After the game, Cabrera approached Dominic with gifts: a bat and his hitting gloves. Game recognize game, and all that:

We've seen this face before.

Can't hate on a fellow player, guys.

Dan is on Twitter. He heckles because he cares.
