NBA Draft Odds and Betting Props: Towns, Okafor, Kaminsky on the Board
Freshman Karl-Anthony Towns of the Kentucky Wildcats and Jahlil Okafor of the Duke Blue Devils are heavy favorites to be selected by the Minnesota Timberwolves and Los Angeles Lakers, respectively, with the top two picks in Thursday's NBA draft, but where other players go following them is more of a mystery.
Towns was -750 to go first overall to the Timberwolves before betting on him escalated, with Okafor the +300 second choice on those odds. However, the Lakers are a far more likely destination for Okafor since Towns is all but a lock to go to Minnesota.
The next best players on the board are freshman guard D'Angelo Russell of the Ohio State Buckeyes and top European forward Kristaps Porzingis, the former of which is a -400 favorite to go ahead of the latter as a +300 underdog.
Russell projects as a point guard at the next level while Porzingis hopes to avoid becoming another bust from overseas after seeing the likes of Darko Milicic (2003) and Andrea Bargnani (2006) each fail miserably as previous lottery selections despite being highly touted prospects.
There are also a number of over/under props on where specific players will be picked in the 2015 NBA draft, most notably Frank Kaminsky, the reigning College Basketball Player of the Year from the Wisconsin Badgers who led them to consecutive Final Four berths the past two seasons.
Kaminsky's pro future is a bit unknown since he dominated smaller players while at Wisconsin but could face power forwards or centers in the NBA.
Kaminsky's over/under draft position is 12, with teams like the Miami Heat and Indiana Pacers selecting before then and the Phoenix Suns and Oklahoma City Thunder picking afterward. There were even some rumors that the New York Knicks could take him as high as fourth overall, per Sporting News' Sean Deveney (h/t Fox Sports), or possibly trade down and get him later in the first round, per CBS Sports' Ken Berger (h/t Jesus Gomez of SB Nation).
Another intriguing player in the 2015 NBA draft is point guard Emmanuel Mudiay, who originally committed to play for the SMU Mustangs last year as a freshman before forgoing college to play professionally in China.
Mudiay's over/under draft position is six, and he could go as high as third overall to the Philadelphia 76ers or fall past the Sacramento Kings at No. 6 to a team needing a point guard.
