Real Madrid Transfer News: Latest on David De Gea and Sergio Aguero Rumours

Matt JonesJun 22, 2015

Real Madrid are hoping to expedite David De Gea’s transfer from Manchester United this week, with fresh reports claiming that the club will “kickstart negotiations” on Monday that will eventually bring the goalkeeper to La Liga.

According to Ruben Jimenez of Marca, the Red Devils “know they have no choice but to sell” the Spaniard given his refusal to sign a new deal.

De Gea has one year remaining on his contract with United, but according to Jimenez’s piece, a fee of roughly €30 million will be needed if the Premier League giants are to sell.

Here’s how De Gea compared last season to the man whom he could potentially replace at the Santiago Bernabeu, Iker Casillas:

Although it seems inevitable that the Spaniard will eventually trade Manchester for Madrid, this transfer has all the makings of a drawn-out saga. Indeed, according to the aforementioned piece, while De Gea and Real agreed to personal terms months ago, the clubs remain apart on a potential fee.

As noted by Bleacher Report’s Jonathan Johnson, the goalkeeping situation is going to be the big story of Real’s summer:

There have also been reports suggesting that United would like to have Sergio Ramos as part of any deal, per Sky Sports.

Going off the aforementioned piece, it seems Real are desperate to get this deal boxed off sooner rather than later. De Gea is one of the world’s best goalkeepers after all, and as a Madrid native, the chance to don Los Blancos jersey is surely a tantalising proposition.

But as is evident by the statistics shown above, there’s not that much separating De Gea from Casillas, even if the latter’s reputation has taken a bit of a beating recently.

That means that if Real don’t want to spend big, they could potentially play a waiting game until January and sign the goalkeeper on a pre-contract.

Florentino Perez 'Does Not Like Argentines'

Jorge Higuain, the father of Napoli and former Real Madrid forward Gonzalo, has launched a scathing attack on Los Blancos president Florentino Perez, claiming he’s biased against players from Argentina.

Speaking with Diario Z (h/t Sport EN), Higuain didn’t hold back in his assessment of Perez and provided examples aplenty to back up his claims:

"

Gonzalo left Madrid because the president, Florentino Perez, does not like Argentines. That is why [Fernando] Redondo, [Esteban] Cambiasso, [Santiago] Solari, [Fernando] Gago, Higuain and Angel Di Maria left.

...

He never attacks you in person, he never shows his face.

He has all the press bought and the board. That is why he could sack [Carlo] Ancelotti. That's how he operates; those are his methods.

"

If these extraordinary claims are to be believed, it’s likely to cast aspersions over any potential move for Argentina and Manchester City striker Sergio Aguero, who has been linked with a move to the Santiago Bernabeu in recent weeks, per Oliver Todd of MailOnline.

As noted here by EPL Stat Man, it’s easy to see why Real would potentially be interested in someone like Aguero:

Indeed, Higuain's words may reflect bitterness over his son not being able to make the grade at the Santiago Bernabeu. Let’s not forget, Los Blancos sold those players because the club received substantial offers—especially in the case of Higuain and Angel Di Maria—or they simply weren’t good enough.

It’s a sensational claim, and if Aguero were to become available this summer, you can bet Perez and Real would be at the front of the queue looking to bring him back to the Spanish capital.

But given that he’s content with life at City, as he reveals in Todd’s piece, it’d take an extraordinary amount of money for Los Blancos to prise the striker away from the Etihad Stadium.
