Manchester United Transfer News: Latest Cristiano Ronaldo and Harry Kane Rumours

Nick AkermanJun 22, 2015

Cristiano Ronaldo is "at loggerheads" with Real Madrid President Florentino Perez, according to Sergio Gomez of AS.

Italian publication Tuttomercatoweb (h/t Jamie Sanderson of the Metro) reports Ronaldo also doesn't see eye to eye with new Madrid boss Rafa Benitez, leading to suggestions Manchester United are "ready" to pay £66.5 million for his return.

Gomez's article will catch the attention of United fans who have been craving Ronaldo's reappearance at Old Trafford. It is claimed the Portuguese international "feels he has not had sufficient support" from Los Blancos in the aftermath of his 30th birthday party, which caused negative headlines across the globe after the loss to Atletico Madrid in February.

MADRID, SPAIN - APRIL 18: Cristiano Ronaldo (R) of Real Madrid CF competes for the ball with Roberto Rosales (L) of Malaga CF during the La Liga match between Real Madrid CF and Malaga CF at Estadio Santiago Bernabeu on April 18, 2015 in Madrid, Spain.

Madrid's sacking of Carlo Ancelotti—who led the side to La Decima in 2014—is noted as a point of contention for Ronaldo, who "feels that his opinion wasn't taken into account" prior to the Italian's departure. The extension of club doctor Jesus Olmo's contract—whose methods are opposed by members of the Madrid squad—is also outlined by Gomez.

Finally, CR7 is allegedly "angry" that his upcoming switch to an out-and-out striker's role "was communicated via the media instead of through official club sporting channels," per Gomez.

These are all small annoyances that could lead to a potential problem for Ronaldo and Madrid. However, neither Benitez nor Perez are going to want to lose their most important player ahead of a challenging season for the club.

Ronaldo racked up 58 goals in La Liga and the Champions League during 2014-15, a number that can't be replaced by a single player.

United are always going to be open to the potential of Ronaldo returning—he's a symbol of the Premier League club's last great era—especially as manager Louis van Gaal intends to build a championship-winning team with two seasons remaining on his contract.

Tottenham Hotspur's Harry Kane continues to be outlined as a potential investment for the Red Devils. He is "flattered" by United's interest, reported by the Press Association (h/t the Guardian), but Spurs aren't likely to let him leave this summer.

Former White Hart Lane boss Harry Redknapp believes United can tempt Spurs chairman Daniel Levy into selling for the right price, as written on Kicca (h/t the Metro):

"

If they (Spurs) were to sell their best player—the one shining light from last season—then what message would it send to the fans? The club have to keep their best players if they're to progress.

But if United were to put in a £45 million bid I reckon Daniel will look at it in the cold light of day, and if he thinks Kane isn't worth that amount of money then I can see him doing the deal.

"

Sky Sports (per Audioboom) provided more details on United's "consideration" of Kane:

The Englishman scored 21 goals in his debut Premier League season and found the net within minutes of making his international debut. United like to invest in homegrown talent—Wayne Rooney, Chris Smalling and Phil Jones are evidence of this—so Kane would fit in with the club's mantra.

B/R UK's Jonathan Johnson recently deciphered exactly what business the club needs to do during the summer:

Despite ongoing speculation that Ronaldo is unhappy, it seems a long shot he will ever head back to the Theatre of Dreams. At 30 years old, he would be a short-term solution to a problem he created. United have never come close to replacing his productivity from the wings.

Kane needs further time in north London to develop before he's worth anywhere near £45 million. Paying for potential is all well and good, but he needs to outline himself as a consistent goalscorer in consecutive seasons before he's worth huge cash.
