"Tests reveal no structural issues in Jered Weaver's hip. He won't pick up a ball in five days, then get re-evaluated," reported Alden Gonzalez of MLB.com.
Weaver lost his fourth straight start in a June 19 defeat to the Oakland Athletics, giving up four earned runs over 5.1 innings in his last appearance with the Angles. Outfielder Alfredo Marte was recalled from Triple-A Salt Lake to take Weaver's place on the roster.
"There's no doubt he wasn't as crisp today as he has been before," Angels manager Mike Scioscia told reporters after the game. "Just trying to get a fastball in to some decent zones has been a challenge for him the last couple times. It was this afternoon."
The three-time All-Star is 4-8 with a 4.75 ERA and 1.24 WHIP in 2015, putting him on pace for the worst season of his big league career. Weaver has never finished with more losses than wins and has only once had an ERA higher than 4.00 in his nine previous seasons.
