UFC Fight Night 69 Results: Matches to Make for the Winners and Losers

Sean SmithJun 23, 2015

She's only 115 pounds, but Joanna Jedrzejczyk is turning into one of the scariest fighters in the world.

At UFC Fight Night 69 on Saturday, she picked up her first title defense by battering Jessica Penne over three rounds. While the ultimate stoppage wasn't one for the highlight reels, Jedrzejczyk put a beating on Penne and left the challenger bloodied.

Competing in the newest UFC division, Jedrzejczyk has plenty of potential challengers who are waiting for the next shot. However, the Polish competitor is quickly showing why she's the one with the belt in the 115-pound class.

Here are the matchups that should be next for Jedrzejczyk, Penne and the rest of the UFC Fight Night 69 competitors.

Lukasz Sajewski

2 of 9

Matchup: Frankie Perez

Entering his UFC debut with a perfect 13-0 record, Lukasz Sajewski looked to be a prospect to keep an eye on. However, he already finds himself in trouble following a loss to Nick Hein on Saturday.

While Sajewski held his own, he landed 28 fewer strikes than Hein and lost on the scorecards as a result.

At 24 years old, Sajewski can still turn it around and have an excellent UFC career. That said, his roster spot will be on the line in his next outing, which could come against Frankie Perez, who is also coming off a loss in his first trip to the Octagon.

Nick Hein

3 of 9

Matchup: Jake Matthews vs. Mickael Lebout Winner

Following a win over Drew Dober in his UFC debut, Hein suffered a setback against James Vick.

The German got back into the win column on Saturday, though. With a takedown and more strikes landed than adversary Lukasz Sajewski, Hein was able to sway all three judges.

"

I like this @NickHeinMMA great fighter and charismatic too. Looking forward to watching him fight again.

— michael (@bisping) June 20, 2015"

It was an important victory for Hein, but it won't net him a huge step up in competition. Instead, he could meet the winner of a July matchup between Jake Matthews and Mickael Lebout.

Steven Kennedy

4 of 9

Matchup: Sultan Aliev

He came into UFC Fight Night 69 with seven straight wins, but there was a reason it took Steven Kennedy 28 pro bouts to earn a spot on the UFC roster.

In hostile territory, he tapped out to Peter Sobotta on Saturday. Before getting caught in a rear-naked choke, Kennedy lasted less than three minutes and landed three strikes on his opponent.

Kennedy's next bout will likely be for his UFC career and could come against Sultan Aliev, who was also stopped within three minutes during his UFC debut against Kenny Robertson.

Peter Sobotta

5 of 9

Matchup: Sergio Moraes

With an 0-3 record in his first UFC run, Sobotta's return to the organization didn't turn many heads. However, the Polish-born welterweight is starting to make some noise now.

At UFC Fight Night 69, he made the best of a bad situation, quickly stopping UFC newcomer and replacement opponent Kennedy.

Originally, Sobotta had been scheduled to meet Sergio Moraes on Saturday. With his strong performance against Kennedy, Sobotta did earn a chance to rebook that contest with the Brazilian since it appears that is what he wants.

Dennis Siver

6 of 9

Matchup: Andre Fili

Although he's among the Top 15 contenders in the weight class, Dennis Siver hasn't been able to gain much traction in the 145-pound division.

The German has failed to win more than two in a row at his new weight. And on Saturday, he suffered a second straight loss in a bout with Tatsuya Kawajiri.

"

Don't try this at home kids! @DennisSiver stretches ahead of the co-main here at #UFCBerlin pic.twitter.com/LaXCYN9d01

— UFC United Kingdom (@UFC_UK) June 20, 2015"

Siver might consider moving back up in weight, but that wouldn't help his defensive wrestling, which was decent but not good enough at UFC Fight Night 69. If Siver does remain at 145 pounds, a bout with Andre Fili could be an interesting striking matchup.

Tatsuya Kawajiri

7 of 9

Matchup: Dennis Bermudez vs. Jeremy Stephens Winner

Following a loss to Clay Guida, his first defeat since an April 2011 run-in with Gilbert Melendez, Kawajiri rebounded with a solid showing against Siver.

Despite competing in front of his opponent's home crowd, Kawajiri cruised to a decision win by picking up at least one takedown in all three rounds. At 37 years old, he might not have many years left at this level, but he's still a threat to most fighters in the 145-pound division.

— FOX Sports: UFC (@UFCONFOX) June 19, 2015"

Dennis Bermudez and Jeremy Stephens will also be looking to rebound from losses when they meet in July. The winner should attempt to take his next step toward a title shot by clashing with Kawajiri.

Jessica Penne

8 of 9

Matchup: Rose Namajunas

Coming off a split-decision win over Randa Markos, Penne wasn't quite ready for a shot at Jedrzejczyk.

Penne had been scheduled to meet Juliana Lima before being pulled from that bout to challenge for the belt. The result was a beating before the referee stopped the fight the third round.

— Sherdog.com (@sherdogdotcom) June 20, 2015"

Now, with both fighters coming off losses in championship contests, Penne and Rose Namajunas should clash in a bout that would put the winner back in the title-shot conversation quickly.

Joanna Jedrzejczyk

9 of 9

Matchup: Claudia Gadelha vs. Jessica Aguilar Winner

With two knockout wins in a row, Jedrzejczyk has her eyes set on becoming the Ronda Rousey of the 115-pound division.

At UFC Fight Night 69, Jedrzejczyk pounded Penne before finishing the challenger in the third round. At 27 years old, she is just hitting her stride now and has the potential to stay on top for a long time if she continues at this pace.

"

WOW!!!!! @joannamma such a badass, a real fighter's fighter, couldn't respect her more!!!! #WhosNext!?!?

— Ronda Rousey (@RondaRousey) June 20, 2015"

It seems Jedrzejczyk's next challenger is clear. With Jessica Aguilar joining the UFC roster, the winner of a bout between the former World Series of Fighting champion and Claudia Gadelha should be on deck.
