Lionel Messi Earns 100th Cap for Argentina at 2015 Copa America
The legend of Lionel Messi hits another milestone on Saturday, June 20, as he earns his 100th cap for Argentina in the team's Copa America match against Jamaica.
Goal's Stefan Coerts reports that Messi is the fifth Argentinian to reach the 100 caps mark.
Messi has climbed the ranks as one of the greatest soccer players of all-time with his exploits for Spain's FC Barcelona. Since his arrival with the La Liga giants in 2004, Barcelona have won the league seven times and the UEFA Champions League four times, while he has scored 286 goals in 315 league games.
But he is trophyless with Argentina, his most recent defeat coming in the final of last year's World Cup to Germany. According to Goal's Peter Hanson, Messi told La Nacion that he craves silverware with his country.
"I would give it all up to win the Copa America. This group deserves it for the way they fight. We had a great World Cup and we deserve it. It's what I picture. Winning the Copa America would us some give peace of mind for the [coming World Cup] qualifiers. Not only for my teammates, for the coach and for me. For the country. The fans also want us to succeed.
"
Argentina has a chance to win their group on Saturday with a win against Jamaica. Here is how they will line up.
In his previous 99 games with Argentina, Messi has recorded 46 goals, according to Goal.
