Real Madrid Transfer News: Latest on David De Gea and Sergio Aguero Rumours

Stuart NewmanJun 20, 2015

Real Madrid’s bid to land Manchester United goalkeeper David De Gea appears to be going swimmingly, but new developments suggest that they could lose one of their big guns in the transfer process.

According to Fichajes.net, via George Bellshaw of Metro, the English side will reinvest all of the transfer fee they fetch for De Gea in bringing in Real centre-back Sergio Ramos.

United are desperately seeking a new central defender to steady their back line in the 2015/16 campaign, and Ramos is reportedly manager Louis van Gaal’s first choice for the job.

Valencia’s Nicolas Otamendi had also been linked to the Red Devils, but Van Gaal’s preference means that the Argentinian is now free to be targeted by Real—per Bellshaw.

So, is the 29-year-old worth losing to bring in Otamendi?

There’s no doubt that Ramos is one of the best defenders in the business—you don’t have to be a genius to work that one out—but can Real survive without him?

Of course they can.

If Ramos has to leave for Otamendi and De Gea to come in, then it seems a worthy sacrifice.

Plus, if Real agree to let the Spaniard go to Manchester United, it rules out the chances of him moving to Barcelona and going from hero to rival.

Even so, Ramos’ brother and agent Rene insisted to Marca amid speculation of the Catalan giants once being offered the defender that he’ll “never play for Barcelona”—via ESPN FC.

All of this transfer speculation has been brought about by stumbling contract negotiations at Madrid’s end; and journalist Rafael Hernandez believes that Ramos is simply trying to push renewal talks on:

Time will tell as to whether Ramos will remain a Real Madrid player next term, but if reinforcements come the other way, it could be a good piece of business for the club.

Sergio Aguero

Meanwhile, at the other end of the pitch, Real’s hopes of landing Manchester City striker Sergio Aguero have hit a brick wall.

The Argentinian striker was rumoured to be the next Galactico signing at the Bernabeu, but he’s since insisted that he’s more than happy in the Premier League—via Oliver Todd of Mail Online: "The only reason a player should leave a club is to achieve things, and I can achieve all I want to at City. I can't stop rumours. I can't stop people writing things, but what I do is repeat what I have already said, and that is that I'm very happy at Manchester City."

It appears that Real now need to shop around to find their next hitman—and it’s a necessary search rather than a luxury one.

Javier Hernandez didn’t prove worthy enough of the white shirt to warrant a permanent deal, while Karim Benzema has been linked with an exit from the Bernabeu—per El Confidencial, via Will Giles of Metro.

Real shouldn’t give up on Aguero despite his dismissal of the switch, though, as he’d be exactly the kind of player who Rafa Benitez is looking for—a lethal striker to finish off the flowing moves of the club's mercurial midfield.

The Spanish manager’s mission is to make up for last year’s trophyless campaign, but he needs reinforcements in his bid to do so.

The likes of De Gea will undoubtedly strengthen the squad, but it’s getting the balance right with arrivals and departures that could prove tricky.

Either way, there’s plenty of business that needs taking care of in the Spanish capital.
