Houston Texans: 2009 NFL Regular Season Schedule | Fantasy Football Rankings
The Houston Texans 2009 Regular Season Schedule
This season, the Texans are primed to make the playoffs for the first time in franchise history. With a much-improved offensive line and a good all-around team, Houston should surprise many as they have the playmakers to win this season.
Below are three items of interest that are worth paying attention to for fantasy owners coming into the season for this team. First, we have listed our fantasy players who we believe are worth paying attention to this season.
Next is strength of schedule against the run, pass, and points against.
Lastly, we have a few games selected that will be key in telling how this team will preform for the 2009 season.
QB—Matt Schaub
RB—Steve Slaton
WR—Andre Johnson
WR—Kevin Walter
TE—Owen Daniels
K—Kris Brown
2. Strength of Schedule
vs. Run—15th Easiest Schedule
vs. Pass—12th Easiest Schedule
vs. Points Given Up—15th Hardest Schedule
This should be the year that the Texans receive national attention. Their offense is one of the best in football and is primed for success. Their defense still has some improving to do, but for fantasy football purposes, all that means is that they will be in more shoot outs.
Look for Matt Schaub's completions down the field to go up, as defenses will have to come into this season respecting Steve Slaton and the running game. With this in mind, it's very reasonable to think that Andre Johnson will have one of the finest seasons of his career.
3. Games of Interest
Weeks One-Three: The Texans got off to a bad start a season ago, and they will need to change this if they hope to make the postseason. In the first three games of the year, they will play some good teams.
One good thing they have going for them is that two of the three games are at home. In those games, they play the Jets (Week One) and the Jaguars (Week Three), but they do go to Tennessee in Week Two.
If Houston can snag two victories in their first three games, it should go a long way towards this team having success all season.
2009 Football Projection
By season's end, I believe the Texans will make it to the playoffs, but they probably won't seal the deal until Week 17. Even if this team doesn't make the playoffs, they should be in the hunt all year and should be stronger next year as the defense matures.
