Cleveland Cavaliers Reportedly Interested in Trading 1st-Round Pick

The Cleveland Cavaliers are wasting no time discussing roster changes after coming off on the wrong side of the NBA Finals.

ESPN.com's Brian Windhorst reports that the Cavaliers are exploring the market to shop their first-round selection, which is 24th overall, in this year's draft.

While Windhorst also explained that they will be shopping center Brendan Haywood with the pick, the Cavaliers will be looking for guards to coexist alongside Kyrie Irving. Cleveland general manager David Griffin revealed his plans to Windhorst after his team's loss to the Golden State Warriors:

The one thing that we did see in Golden State, and it was something that was very difficult for us to deal with, is they have an incredibly versatile team of multiple facilitating playmakers. That's something we're going to continue to work upon. The more playmaking facilitators you have that know how to play the game, the better off you are, and I think you saw the value of that in the team that ultimately did win.

"

In his latest mock draft, ESPN.com's Chad Ford has the Cavaliers selecting point guard Delon Wright out of Utah, adding that "the Cavs could always use depth at the point position and Wright has the chops to provide it right away."

The Cavaliers will only be able to trade their pick after the draft, according to Windhorst, because they traded away their 2016 first-round choice in the Kevin Love deal.

It's unclear what sort of value the Cavs will be able to get for Haywood and their pick; it's entirely possible that the package of Haywood's large salary and a mid-level prospect won't entice any teams to trade anything of value. But this report makes it clear that Cleveland is committed to trying to fix the depth issues that plagued it down the stretch.
