Twitter Reacts as Jordan Henderson Leads 'FIFA 16' Cover Voting

Ryan BaileyJun 19, 2015

EA Sports created plenty of buzz on Twitter three weeks ago when they announced that the women's game would be featured in FIFA 16 for the first time in the series' history. This week, the digital-distraction peddlers have become the topic of social media discussion once again, this time by putting the cover star for the UK edition of the game up for a public vote

The four candidates are Sergio Aguero, Harry Kane, Thibaut Courtois and Jordan Henderson. The Liverpool star began his cover campaign on Friday with a dance-based promise to the electorate:

Even before vowing to steal one of his teammate's trademark celebrations, Hendo emerged as an early leader to join Leo Messi on the cover of the world's most popular sporting video game:

Clearly, the 25-year-old had a lot of support among the Kop faithful:

Henderson was even backed by the man whose boots he will be metaphorically filling in the coming years:

The general reaction to the prospect of Henderson adorning the FIFA 16 cover, however, was one of bafflement:

Some were quick to suggest an expansion of the vote to offer some new candidates:

Meanwhile, many appeared to be offended and deeply angered by the very idea of Henderson fronting their favourite video game:

One fan was particularly hyperbolic:

A large proportion of the Twitter populace were so outraged by the voting that they suggested they would actually boycott the game:

It was recently suggested that Arsenal fans are "ruining the Internet" due to their tendency to hijack and win all kinds of online polls, and many seemed glad that the Gunners didn't have a horse in this race:

However, don't underestimate the power of Arsenal's online contingent, who might just be behind Henderson's successful campaign:

As voting continues, Henderson's fellow candidates may need to step up their game. Courtois has now risen to the occasion with a campaign video of his own:

The Belgian shot-stopper already has plenty of support:

Messrs. Aguero and Kane, we await your responses...
