Burnley's Kieran Trippier Move Good for Tottenham Hotspur and DeAndre Yedlin
Burnley full-back Kieran Trippier appears Tottenham bound.
According to Sky Sports, Spurs have agreed a £3.5 million fee and Trippier has completed a medical ahead of the proposed transfer.
This move appears to match Spurs' new policy of identifying value and minimising risk.

After the 2013 splurge, signings like Eric Dier, Trippier, Kevin Wimmer and Dele Alli represent a return to the previous transfer policy at Spurs.
Players that are young, cheap, English if possible and talented are the priority.
Trippier fits the bill.
In the 2013-14 Championship season, Trippier was a phenomenon. He made 12 assists as his Clarets rocketed to promotion.
He then played every game in Burnley's eventually doomed Premier League campaign but his average WhoScored rating of 7.15 is impressive given that he was almost always on the losing side.
He made four assists from 51 chances created; solid numbers in a relegated side.
In fact, according to 90min.com, he made more accurate crosses than all but one player in the top flight last season. He also won the ball an average of 4.5 times per game.
That Trippier was a success with Burnley is no surprise. He was close to the first team at Manchester City before the Dubai revolution put paid to his Premier League dreams.
Trippier is even capable at dead-ball situations. He often took corners for the Clarets and occasionally free-kicks. Of course, Christian Eriksen is unlikely to be displaced from his role as Spurs' main man in those moments but it is an additional string to Trippier's bow.
Given that Spurs possess England's finest right-back, Kyle Walker, this transfer may seem an odd move.
Walker has played a huge amount of football in his time at Spurs and his injury problems have mounted.
His 155 appearances in just four seasons is staggering. It is worth noting that 55 of those have come in his last two injury-plagued campaigns.
A supreme athlete and the ideal full-back for Pochettino's system, Walker may no longer be capable of playing so often. Trippier is a rival to Walker at most and a fill-in at least.

If Trippier cannot rise to Walker's level, he will be able to deputise in the lesser competitions.
This statistical comparison suggests that Trippier has the ability to match it with Walker.
According to the Guardian, Walker hopes to be fit to start pre-season. However, his injury-plagued recent seasons are reason enough for Spurs to invest in a first-team quality deputy.
This transfer though, leaves Spurs with three players theoretically battling for the starting right-back role while Dier has also proven himself a capable deputy.

The report from the Telegraph's John Percy that Norwich City are keen on the United States defender is great news for all involved.
Norwich are a promoted club that does not closely resemble the side that went down. They are an attacking side that won their way out of the Championship on the back of four players that reached double figures in terms of goals scored.
They will face sterner tests in the top flight and their willingness to address their defence is sensible. The addition of Yedlin will give them an athletic full-back that, while still learning, is first-team quality in their situation.
The Canaries are unlikely to abandon their flair entirely though and that is why the signing of Yedlin makes sense. His attacking talents are certainly his greatest attribute. They will be put to good use by Alex Neil's side.
Ideally, Yedlin will play often as Norwich battle relegation.
This sink-or-swim situation will quickly reveal whether the American is capable of holding his own in England's first division.
Trippier told the Burnley Express in September that he had to adapt his game to the higher standards of the England's top flight, saying "I want to make sure the back is locked off first then I’ll pick and choose my moments when I go forward."
Yedlin is facing a similar jump.

If he succeeds, Norwich will benefit in the short-term while Spurs will be the long-term winners. Yedlin himself will also benefit.
As the signing of Trippier by Spurs demonstrates, a successful season in the Premier League is enough to win you a place in Pochettino's squad.
Last summer, Spurs addressed the perceived problems in their defence by signing Ben Davies, Dier and Federico Fazio.
Defending remained a problem in 2014-15 but this summer's move for Trippier promises to address the problems in a longer-term way. For some time to come, the right side of Spurs' defence is in good hands.
