Azarenka Withdraws with Foot Injury

Wednesday, June 17

After getting bounced in the third round of the French Open by Serena Williams, a left foot injury has forced Victoria Azarenka to withdraw from the Aegon Classic, according to the Associated Press (via ESPN.com).

Following Azarenka's first-round defeat of Varvara Lepchenko, she was forced from action during her second-round match with Zarina Diyas.

"It's very disappointing for me to make this decision, but I tried to practice, and it just doesn't feel 100 percent," she said, according to the Associated Press. "I don't think it is the right time for me to take a risk right now, especially right before Wimbledon, and I need to make sure I have the best preparation possible."

If Azarenka is healthy enough to return for the year's third Grand Slam tournament, the Belarusian can't be slept on in the women's bracket. The 2006 Wimbledon champion has notched back-to-back second-place finishes on the game's biggest grass stage.
