Adrien Broner vs. Shawn Porter: Fight Time, Date, Live Stream and TV Info

Brian MaziqueJun 18, 2015

By a country mile, the Adrien "The Problem" Broner (30-1, 22 KO) vs. "Showtime" Shawn Porter (25-1-1, 16 KO) bout is the best main event in the short history of the Premier Boxing Champions series. This is a matchup of two former welterweight world champions in their mid-20s, and both guys are from Ohio.

You really can't ask for more from a non-championship bout—especially one on free television. This bout will be contested as a 144-pound catchweight, but both fighters seem to favor a presence at welterweight, although Broner's last three bouts have taken place at 140 pounds.

When: Saturday, June 20 at 8:30 p.m. ET

Cincinnati vs. Akron

Broner hails from Cincinnati and Porter was born in Akron. It would have made sense for this fight to take place somewhere in Ohio, but because of the status of both fighters, the mecca of the sport received the bout. Nonetheless, this is still a battle of Ohio fighters.

Broner and Porter have known each other for years, thus The Problem hasn't been his normal brash self with the fight approaching. There's a ton of mutual respect between the two men, but that doesn't mean Porter and Broner aren't exuding confidence.

Broner spoke plainly when he discussed Saturday's bout during an ESPN.com Q&A session:

"He's a solid fighter, a world-class fighter and a former world champion. I'm going to be taking this fight serious and am not looking past him. I will defeat Shawn Porter on [Saturday]."

Porter was just as confident. He took to Twitter to say that he would ease Cleveland's recent sports wounds—namely the Cleveland Cavaliers' loss to the Golden State Warriors in the NBA Finals—and become a part of the healing process:

One thing's for sure, Ohio can't lose in this one.

Broner made his PBC debut in the series premiere against John Molina Jr. in March. The fight wasn't thrilling, but Broner did win it easily. It was a lopsided unanimous-decision win with two of the three judges scoring it a complete shutout in favor of Broner.

A week later, on the next PBC card, Porter spectacularly stopped late replacement Erick Bone via fifth-round knockout. It was an action-packed fight in which Bone fought well filling in for Robert Garcia, who didn't show up for the weigh-in. That seems to be a recurring theme, as Garcia withdrew from his scrap with Errol Spence Jr. on Saturday because of weight issues, per Rick Reeno of BoxingScene.com.

Porter was just too strong and determined to shine in his PBC debut against Bone. But his second assignment in the series will be more challenging.

Who Wins?

This is a tough one to call. Broner is clearly the superior boxer. He has faster hands and is the more accurate puncher. But with that said, Porter is an excellent athlete, and I believe he's physically stronger than Broner.

To win, Porter needs to get on the inside, rough Broner up and bang the body.

Broner needs to keep Porter at a distance and fight at a controlled pace. If The Problem is able to establish his jab and land combinations, Porter will be the one with the dilemma. As difficult as it is to pick a winner in this bout, I'm going to tab Porter as the victor via split decision.

Showtime will press the action and score points with the judges as the busier fighter. On the strength of that and more effective power shots, Porter will earn a close and hard-fought decision. A rematch will be in order after this one, and Broner's post-fight interview should be interesting.
