Seth Rollins Fighting Triple H at SummerSlam?
The most anticipated match announced for Battleground already is the WWE World Heavyweight Championship bout between Seth Rollins and Brock Lesnar, but there are rumors that the current champion could have a very different opponent at SummerSlam.
According to F4WOnline (h/t Wrestling Inc's Marc Middleton), the tension between Rollins and Triple H that has boiled to the surface in recent weeks could ultimately lead to a match between the two men after Lesnar gets his title shot.
"WWE officials are still planning on doing Triple H vs. WWE World Heavyweight Champion Seth Rollins for this year’s SummerSlam pay-per-view, according to Bryan Alvarez of Wrestling Observer Radio. The idea appears to be to have Rollins turn babyface for the feud," wrote Middleton.
After months of Rollins acting as the top heel in the company, an abrupt face turn would be a huge swerve.
Add in a rushed match at SummerSlam, and it's hard to imagine why the company would go through with this plan now.
Regardless of whether Lesnar wins the title or Rollins sneaks out of the bout with his belt intact, The Beast Incarnate will be around the championship scene for the foreseeable future. Unless WWE has something huge planned for Lesnar, a one-month build to Triple H vs. Rollins is just not enough.
Like most rumors, take this with a grain of salt.
As much as most fans don’t want this to be true, this is a unique possibility that WWE programming could hint toward over the coming weeks. As if fans needed more of a reason to care about Lesnar vs. Rollins at Battleground.
Intercontinental Championship Triple Threat Match
In a more obvious rumor, there are reports that WWE is planning on having a Triple Threat match for the Intercontinental Championship between defending champion Ryback, Big Show and The Miz.
In a report from F4WOnline (h/t Wrestling Inc), the plan for Battleground is a three-way match that could also carry into SummerSlam:
"After last night's WWE Money In the Bank pay-per-view, WWE is going forward with Big Show vs. The Miz vs. Ryback for the Intercontinental Title. The original plan was to do the match last night but it was changed to Ryback vs. Show in a singles match. The three-way feud should carry them through Battleground and possibly into SummerSlam.
"
For anyone who has watched the feud between Big Show and Ryback, the eventual involvement of The Miz was obvious. During the very first interaction involving all three men, Big Show knocked out The Miz and threatened Ryback.
The storyline is obviously pointing at a Triple Threat for Battleground, and that’s a good plan for WWE.
Ryback vs. Big Show wasn’t going to be a great feud in the ring or on the mic, but at least the infusion of The Miz will add an element of fun to the angle.
With Ryback and The Miz going to battle on the mic, this should be an enjoyable addition to the Battleground card—and even the SummerSlam card if it goes that far.
