Wainwright Off Crutches

Wainwright told Rick Hummel of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch that his Achilles is progressing "nicely." The three-time All-Star suffered a ruptured Achilles tendon during a plate appearance against the Milwaukee Brewers on April 25. He has a 2-1 record and a 1.44 ERA in four 2015 starts.
The Cardinals have stayed afloat without their top starter, extending their lead in the NL Central to six games coming into Wednesday.
“The selfish part of me goes, ‘No way they could win this many games without me, right?’” Wainwright told Hummel. “What you realize is that this organization keeps on ticking, no matter what and no matter who they lose. If they can win without Albert (Pujols), they can win without me.”
The righty wouldn't rule out a return this season, telling Hummel "absolutely," when asked if a September or October return is possible.
Despite losing Wainwright, St. Louis leads MLB in earned run average and is a top-10 outfit in nearly every major pitching category.
