Status Uncertain as Recovery Continues

Tuesday, June 16

Ian Begley of ESPN.com provided the latest from Sefolosha:

Jeff Zillgitt of USA Today passed on a statement from Sefolosha in April that said the forward had suffered a broken right fibula and ligament damage in his right leg as a result of an altercation with New York City police. He was charged with resisting arrest, obstructing governmental administration and disorderly conduct.

He spoke with Kevin Arnovitz of ESPN.com in early June about his recovery:

"

I had surgery about a month ago, so it's a slow process. It's my first surgery, so I don't know the exact timeline and how the recovery is going to be. But I expect there are going to be some long months ahead. Right now, I can slowly start putting some weight on my leg, so I'm a little bit more mobile, which really helps.

"

Further details surrounding the incident that led to the injuries remain unclear. Perhaps more will be learned at the trial, which Begley notes is set to begin Sept. 9.

On the basketball side, it's concerning for the Hawks that Sefolosha may get a late start next season. There's still time for that outlook to change, though, with four months until the new campaign.
