New Orleans Saints 2009 Regular Season Schedule
If the Saints hope to make it back to the playoffs this season they are going to need to stop the injuries they are accumulating so far this preseason. If they can get healthy, this team has a very good opportunity to shine in 2009.
Below are three sections of interest that are worth paying attention to for fantasy owners coming into the season for this team. First we have listed our fantasy players which we believe are worth paying attention to this season. Next is strength of schedule against the run, pass and points against. Lastly we have a few games selected that will be key in telling how this team will preform for the 2009 season.New Orleans Saints- 2009 NFL Regular Season Schedule- Printable- Downloadable
Fantasy Players
QB. Drew Brees
RB. Pierre Thomas
RB. Reggie Bush
WR. Marques Colston
WR. Lance Moore
WR. Robert Meachem
TE. Jeremy Shockey
Strength of Schedule
vs Run 12th Easiest Schedule
vs Pass 5th Hardest Schedule
vs Points Given Up 2nd Hardest Schedule
Unfortunately, for this great passing game, they are going to face one of the harder schedules in football for the pass. Not only that but they will also face the second hardest schedule for points given up by opposing defenses.
This won't make Brees's chances of posting similar numbers from a year ago any easier. To make matters worse Drew's left tackle is going to be out for awhile with a sports hernia and that won't help him in pass protection.
Fortunately for this team they do have a good schedule against the run but both Reggie Bush and Pierre Thomas are both down right now with knee problems.
If this team is going to have another highly effective season they will need these runners healthy and ready to role as they are a major part of this teams success.
Games of Interest
Weeks 11 - 13: This three game stretch should be a challenging one as the Saints will play at Buccaneers, Patriots and at Redskins. Out of the three games the one against the Patriots should be this teams best chance to post strong fantasy numbers against.
New England still has a young secondary and Drew Brees should be able to take advantage of this team in his dome stadium. The other two games should be hard ones as the Saints will play the Buccaneers and Redskins on the road.
2009 Football Projection
If the Saints have a healthy season than I believe they should make a run for the NFC South division title this season. But if Bush and Thomas continue to have knee problems than this team may fall into the middle of the pack and be nothing more than a .500 ball club this year.
