Stanley Cup 2015: Live Stream Schedule for Lightning vs. Blackhawks Game 6

Steve SilvermanJun 15, 2015

Losing Game 5 at home on Saturday night has put the Tampa Bay Lightning in a precarious position. Not only do they have to win to stay alive, they have to do it against a team that has proved it can win the biggest games.

The Chicago Blackhawks are in the rarest of positions: They have an opportunity to win the Stanley Cup at home for the first time since 1938. Chicago won the 2010 championship in Philadelphia, and they repeated that success in Boston three years later.

The Blackhawks can still win the Stanley Cup on Wednesday if they lose on Monday night, but they would have to do it the Amalie Arena in Tampa. Clearly, the desired option is to win it at the United Center.

The Lightning are now the desperate team. The biggest problem they have heading into Game 6 is the lack of production from their best player, Steven Stamkos. Stamkos has been skating hard and contributing with his physical play and defense, but he is best as a hard-shooting forward who can put the puck in the net from anywhere in the offensive zone.

There's every reason to have full respect for the Chicago defense and the play of Duncan Keith, Brent Seabrook and Niklas Hjalmarsson, but Stamkos should be able to score. The Lightning have scored just one goal in each of the last two games, and they need Stamkos to come through in this matchup.

The Lightning are hoping that high-scoring winger Nikita Kucherov will be able to play. Kucherov suffered an upper-body injury early in Game 5 when he crashed into the post as he tried to knock a loose puck by Corey Crawford.

Kucherov did not return after the injury, but he has accompanied his team to Chicago, and his status likely won't be determined until game time.

The Blackhawks are in a position to win the championship because of their depth scoring. Antoine Vermette has two game-winning goals in the Stanley Cup Final, and he followed up Kris Versteeg's wrist shot by picking up the rebound and firing into the upper region of the net for the decisive score in Game 5.

The Blackhawks also got a gift goal from Patrick Sharp, as he picked up the loose puck and had a slam dunk when Ben Bishop and Victor Hedman ran into each other.

Depth scoring is important when the stars are not putting the puck in the back of the net. Patrick Kane has not scored in the Stanley Cup Final, while Jonathan Toews has just one goal. Head coach Joel Quenneville is used to seeing his big guns lead the way, and while the Blackhawks already have three wins, they may need Toews and Kane to break loose in order to get that fourth win.

The longer the series has gone on, the better Corey Crawford has looked. Crawford has a 2.00 goals-against average in the final series, but that figure is 1.00 in the last two games. He has stopped 57 of the last 59 shots he has faced.

Crawford is never included among names such as Henrik Lundqvist, Tuukka Rask and Carey Price when the best goaltenders in the league are discussed, but he will win his second Stanley Cup ring if the Blackhawks are victorious on Monday night.

Lundqvist and Price don't have Stanley Cup rings, and Rask got his as Tim Thomas' backup in 2011. When Rask confronted Crawford in 2013, Rask came out second best.

Look for the Lightning to come out with a sharp start, and they may even take an early lead, but the Blackhawks are not about to let this game slip away. They will win their third Stanley Cup in six seasons.

Prediction: Chicago 5, Tampa Bay 3
