Ortiz Homers Again to Move into Tie for 29th on All-Time List
It wasn't enough to help his team avoid a sixth consecutive defeat, but Boston Red Sox designated hitter David Ortiz homered for a second straight day in Sunday's 13-5 loss to the Toronto Blue Jays, moving himself into a tie with Hall of Famers Willie Stargell and Stan Musial for 29th place on the all-time home runs list, per MLB Milestones.
With the Red Sox already down 10-2 in the bottom of the fifth inning, Ortiz hit a three-run blast to deep right field off Blue Jays pitcher Marco Estrada, capping off a five-run frame that cut a 10-run deficit to five.

But Boston didn't score another run for the rest of the afternoon, eventually losing by eight runs to finish off an ugly three-game sweep at the hands of the Blue Jays.
Although he's off to arguably the worst start of his career this season, the 39-year-old Ortiz has at least been doing his part for the struggling Sox of late, with five hits, three home runs, four walks, seven RBI and five runs over the last four games.
Still, even with the recent hot streak, Ortiz owns a middling .229/.313/.414 batting line for the season, and his team sits in last place with a 27-37 record.
