Bangladesh vs. India: Winners and Losers from Only Test

Chris TealeJun 14, 2015

It was a game affected greatly by the rain, and so it was no surprise that the only Test between Bangladesh and India finished in a draw.

In spite of the weather problems that came from the monsoon conditions, several players shone individually and stood out, even as they were prevented from forcing a win.

Let’s take a look at some winners and losers from the game.

Winner: Ravichandran Ashwin

1 of 6

The hosts struggled to apply themselves in their first innings, and were ruthlessly exploited by Ravichandran Ashwin.

He took his first five-wicket haul outside India—5-87 in 25 overs—as he ripped the heart out of the Bangladesh batting lineup.

Losers: The Fans

2 of 6

It was unfortunate timing to have Bangladesh host a Test match in monsoon season, when the rains are at their worst, and so it proved as 248 overs were lost to rain in the game.

The game could have been an intriguing matchup, especially as India were away from home, but instead the weather prevented it playing out to a conclusion.

Winner: Shikhar Dhawan

3 of 6

In India’s only innings, opener Shikhar Dhawan shone as he made 173 from 195 balls at a strike rate of 88.71.

It was a key part of the away side’s efforts to reach 462, a total that would be more than enough for them to avoid defeat.

Loser: Mushfiqur Rahim

4 of 6

Bangladesh captain Mushfiqur Rahim was promoted in the batting order and had the wicket-keeping gloves taken off him, but he still could not deliver with the bat.

He made just two runs before he was caught by Rohit Sharma off Ravichandran Ashwin, and he would have wanted to deliver so much more.

Winner: Murali Vijay

5 of 6

The other Indian opener, Murali Vijay, also looked enormously impressive with the bat as he reached 150 in an opening partnership of 283.

They may have been interrupted by rain frequently, but Vijay and Shikhar Dhawan set the tone for a dominant batting display.

Loser: Umesh Yadav

6 of 6

One India player to not enjoy such a successful time was seamer Umesh Yadav on a pitch that had little to offer him.

In the first innings, his seven overs disappeared for 45 runs at an economy rate of 6.42 runs per over, a very disappointing return.
