Arsenal Transfer News: Latest Morgan Schneiderlin, Grzegorz Krychowiak Rumours

Gianni VerschuerenJun 15, 2015

Former England international Matt Le Tissier believes Morgan Schneiderlin has the talent to play for a Champions League club, but the reported Gunners transfer target should pick Manchester United over Arsenal.

Speaking to Alan Brazil on his talkSPORT radio show, Le Tissier discussed the Southampton man at length, and with United and Arsenal reportedly both interested in the midfielder, he believes Schneiderlin is needed more at Old Trafford:

"

He can play for a top four team comfortably. He is very accomplished in that [defensive midfield] position.

[…]

Out of the top four clubs, I think Manchester United are more in need of him than Arsenal.

Arsenal have got a lot of midfield players. Would he be that much better than what they have already got? Possibly a little bit better, yes, but in terms of needing somebody in that position and being light in that position, I think Manchester United are more in need of him than Arsenal are.

Arsenal have been talked about as a good fit for Schneiderlin since the summer of 2014 and were thought to be favourites for his signature, but recently the Mancunians have emerged as front-runners for the France international.

LONDON, ENGLAND - SEPTEMBER 23: Hector Bellerin of Arsenal moves away from Morgan Schneiderlin of Southampton during the Capital One Cup Third Round match between Arsenal and Southampton at the Emirates Stadium on September 23, 2014 in London, England.

Francis Coquelin established himself as a viable option in midfield during the 2014-15 season, and while Schneiderlin is a more polished and versatile option, the presence of his compatriot means the Gunners no longer have a clear need at the position.

According to radio host Pilib de Brun, Schneiderlin's entourage is focused on a deal with United right now:

The Red Devils often lacked a physical presence in the centre of the pitch in 2014-15, which allowed other teams to simply overrun them and put the side on the back foot. Manager Louis van Gaal is expected to prioritise the position during the summer, and he needs a world-class option to have the club fighting for the Premier League title next season.

With that in mind, United won't be scared to spend big on a player like Schneiderlin, and with the eventual transfer fee expected to be significant, Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger might be more inclined to trust Coquelin and pull out of the Schneiderlin sweepstakes.

Much will depend on the future of Jack Wilshere, who had a great performance for England in their Euro 2016 qualifier against Slovenia but was held back by injuries and inconsistency during the Premier League season.

Bleacher Report's Andy Brassell believes the time has come for Wenger to say goodbye to the midfielder, and while that may be a little drastic, you have to wonder whether Wenger still has full confidence in the perennially injured Wilshere:

Schneiderlin would be a quality replacement for the England international, and if the right offer comes along for the latter, Wenger could be tempted to cash in on Wilshere and reinvest those funds in Schneiderlin, whose injury history carries a lot less weight.

It's unlikely Wilshere will be moved during the summer, however, which means Schneiderlin is more likely to sign for United.

Grzegorz Krychowiak Switches to British Agent

An alternative to Schneiderlin could be Sevilla's Grzegorz Krychowiak, who sparked rumours regarding his future by switching to the British Stellar Group as his new representatives, per the Daily Telegraph's Matt Law.

The Poland international was one of the driving forces behind Sevilla's run to the Europa League, and the LFP writers awarded him with a spot in the La Liga XI for his fine season, per Bleacher Report UK:

The 25-year-old may not be the most well-known name among casual fans, but he's a fantastic ball-winning midfielder who has a world-class understanding of the game. He always positions himself well in midfield, making tons of interceptions and tackles.

Southampton have been linked with a move for Krychowiak, but per Sami Mokbel of the Daily Mail, he has his eyes set on Champions League football and is unlikely to join the Saints.

Krychowiak reportedly has a buy-out clause of roughly £22 million in his contract, and, according to Law, Arsenal have been scouting him for a while. He also claims the Gunners nearly made a bid for his services in January.

The Stellar Group represents compatriot and Arsenal goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny, further fuelling rumours Krychowiak could have his heart set on a move to north London.

Krychowiak isn't Schneiderlin, however. His offensive contributions are limited compared to the France international, and in many ways, he will remind fans of Coquelin for his defensive abilities and tenacity. With that in mind, it's hard to see why Wenger would be willing to spend £22 million on a player who would bring very little new to the squad.

The Pole is a fantastic player, but unless Wenger thinks he's simply a better option than Coquelin, it makes little sense to offer a great deal of cash for his services.
