Lakers Rumors: Latest NBA Draft Buzz on Kristaps Porzingis and More

Joe PantornoJun 13, 2015

The Los Angeles Lakers are sitting pretty with the second pick in the 2015 NBA draft. Leading up to this point, it had been a question of whether they would be getting Karl-Anthony Towns or Jahlil Okafor.

According to ESPN's Mark Stein, it might not be either of them.

Porzingis, out of Latvia, put on a show during his workout in Las Vegas, and Lakers general manager Mitch Kupchak was in attendance.

A 7'1" big man with the capability of running the floor and shooting the lights out of the gym, Porzingis has steadily worked his way up from the lower end of the lottery to the forefront. A scout on hand told the Philadelphia Inquirer's  Keith Pompey that Porzingis was "better than Karl Towns" and was the best player in the draft.

While Okafor is one of the best low-post players available in the draft, Porzingis' game is just too well-rounded, which is why the Lakers might take a chance on him.

There were whisperings about Porzingis going No. 1, but  Pompey saw that the consensus was that Towns was the "safe pick."

He is also capable of throwing it down, as Pompey got a glimpse of of Porzingis' aerial ability.

The Lakers' move at two will help shape the draft, as the Philadelphia 76ers might take Porzingis at No. 3 if he falls to them instead of Emmanuel Mudiay or D'Angelo Russell. Officials from the Sixers and New York Knicks, who are picking fourth, were also in attendance to see Porzingis' workout.
