Big West? Creating a Power Western Conference

The Mountain West wants an automatic BCS bid. With Utah's win in the Sugar Bowl last year and now BYU's win against Oklahoma, they've made their statement. Only the Big 12 and SEC have a better trio of teams than the MWC with BYU, TCU, and Utah. I'm in favor of elevating this conference, but I say let's make it even better where there will be no argument against the MWC as a BCS conference.

Just as the Big 12 combined the best of the Big 8 and the Southwest Conference, we can do the same in the west of current non-BCS teams.

Let's use the MWC as a foundation, and build from there and form a 12 team conference that sports two divisions that battle it out in a conference championship. First bring in Boise State. Imagine BYU, TCU, and Utah in the same conference as Boise. It already has enough clout, but let's keep going. Consider upper level WAC teams along with teams from the C-USA that are located in Texas and Oklahoma. My suggestions are to evaluate Houston, Tulsa, Nevada, Hawaii, Fresno State, UTEP, and Louisiana Tech. Also consider dropping some lower MWC teams such as San Diego State, Wyoming, New Mexico, and even UNLV.

There will be a lot of controversy, but at the end of the day, a power conference could emerge.

Consider this:

Eastern Division: Air Force, Colorado State, Houston, TCU, Tulsa, UTEP

Western Division: Boise State, BYU, Fresno State, Hawaii, Nevada, Utah

There shouldn't be any doubt that this fantasy conference is BCS material. If anything, just add Boise State and make the MWC a 10 team conference.

The stars are aligning. Teams have made statements on the field, and now they need to take advantage of a ripe opportunity. My advise: Get together and create a power conference in the west.
