Porzingis Has Private Workout for Knicks; Remains in Play for Top 3

Tuesday, June 23

Ian Begley of ESPNNewYork.com reported the Knicks brought Porzingis in to watch him for the second time, after scouting him in Las Vegas earlier this month.

The Lakers also brought the 7'1" forward in for a workout, according Yahoo Sports' Adrian Wojnarowski on June 16.

On June 13, ESPN's Marc Stein reported Porzingis is in the mix for the Lakers and 76ers at No. 2 and No. 3 on draft night.

This time of year, a lot of players get linked to various teams for a variety of reasons. Sometimes it's because there is legitimate interest, but it can also be a ploy to get teams picking later to increase their urgency and make some kind of trade offer.

On June 12, Porzingis held a private workout for teams and was reportedly very impressive. Keith Pompey of the Philadelphia Inquirer wrote on Twitter that one scout called him the best player in this class:

Porzingis is widely regarded as one of the best prospects in the draft, ranking ninth on B/R draft analyst Jonathan Wasserman's big board because of his size and mobility.

"He should be considered a project," Wasserman wrote, "which could make him a tough sell for the New York Knicks at No. 4. But look for Porzingis to generate interest from the other teams picking No. 3 through No. 9."

There's always a market for size and shooting in the NBA. The fact that Porzingis has the ability to do both makes his rising stock easy to understand. Teams still have more than one week to go through all their evaluations before making a final decision.

Porzingis has given at least two teams in the top three something to think about while also making teams in the top 10 that hoped to get a shot at him plan for another option in case he goes sooner than expected.
