Micah Richards to Aston Villa: Latest Transfer Details, Comments and Reaction
Former Manchester City and England star Micah Richards has joined Aston Villa, the team announced on June 17.
The Birmingham-born player—who is the youngest defender to ever be called up by England-- agreed personal terms with the Villans on June 12, as confirmed by the Guardian's Ed Aarons:

Richards spent last season on loan at Fiorentina after being pushed toward the exit by the recently deposed Premier League champions, but the player was frustrated by a lack of playing time in Italy, featuring only 10 times in Serie A, per WhoScored.com.
The 26-year-old took to social media to express his gratitude to City despite having his career at Eastlands cut shorter than he may have once liked, as reported by Sky Sports:
"I just wanted to thank the Man City fans for the amazing support they've given me over the years.
I joined City when I was 14 and have been part of a brilliant period in the club's history—winning our first league title in 44 years, winning the FA Cup, playing in the Champions League.
The club, the manager, the staff who work behind the scenes, the players, but most importantly the fans—everyone—will always have a special place in my heart.
City's been like a family to me and I wish everyone the best of luck for next season and the coming years.
"

Taylor believes the move to Villa Park will bear fruit for both player and club, as Villa manager Tim Sherwood looks to drive his team back up the table:
At his best, Richards was considered the future of England's defence. If the player can force his way into Sherwood's first XI—as would be expected—he could yet revitalise his international career.
The country is not blessed with exceptional centre-backs, and Richards was on the verge of becoming a top player not so long ago.
Villa is a good fit for the defender. He desperately needs an opportunity to remind people why he was so highly rated—and the fallen Birmingham giants need a physical presence at the back.
