Former goalscoring icon Ian Rush escorts a team of Liverpool legends to theย Santiago Bernabeu on Sunday, as the Anfield giants take on a side of Real Madrid legends.

Predatory strikers Michael Owen and Robbie Fowler return for the Redsโ€”with Craig Bellamy, Patrick Berger, Jamie Carragher, Jerzy Dudek, Luis Garcia and Vladimir Smicer all set to appear.

Steve McManaman is also set to feature for Rush's sideโ€”against the La Liga team he had so much success with after his departure from Merseyside.

Liverpool unveil their legends team for their inaugural fixture on Sunday, and they couldn't do it against more illustrious opponents than La Decima 2014 Champions League winners Real Madrid.

Los Blancos will be fielding a team crammed with former Galacticos, headed by legendary Frenchmanย Zinedine Zidane and featuring Roberto Carlos and Clarence Seedorf.ย 

A crowd of 40,000 is expected to attend the event, perย Liverpool Echo,ย with a competitive atmosphereย guaranteed, with pride at stake.ย 

ASย took to social media to highlight the fixture:

Michael Owen also returns to Los Blancos after his disappointing stay at the Bernabeu, and he will be hoping to show he still has his touch in front of the Madrid public.ย 

Owen appeared 43 times for the Galacticos, scoring 19 timesโ€”per the player'sย official websiteโ€”but it was his 179 goals for the Reds he will truly be remembered for.

One player who had happier times in Spain was Steve McManaman. His four years in the Spanish capitalโ€”after leaving Liverpool in 1999โ€”harvested two La Liga championships and two Champions League trophies, making him England's most successful export.ย

However, it is the presence of Zidane that makes the friendly highly anticipated.

The former World Cup winner was an artist in a Madrid shirt, and fans will be hoping to see aย selectionย of his best skills on Sunday evening.

The night will be a fabulous occasion for two of the Champions League greatest clubs. Liverpool will be hoping to have a winning start to the life of their legends team, with Rush leading the side to victory in Madrid.
