Arsenal's acquisition of Southampton defender Calum Chambers has brought about an official charge from the Football Association.

It is suggested both the Gunners and football agent Alan Middleton breached the governing body's rules when working on the deal that took Chambers from St. Mary's to the Emirates Stadium during the summer of 2014.

FA Charge Arsenal After Chambers Transfer

Friday, June 12

"Arsenal have been charged for allegedly breaching the FA’s Football Agents Regulations," reports the FA's official website.

The report also confirms Middleton has also been charged in relation to Chambers' move prior to the recently concluded season. Middleton has until June 17 to respond, while the Gunners can take until June 26 after asking for more time.

Chambers set the north London club back £16 million in 2014, reported by BBC Sport. The now-20-year-old made an immediate impression under boss Arsene Wenger, taking up a regular right-back position in the team in the absence of fellow signing Mathieu Debuchy.

However, he made just two starts in the final three months of the season, per WhoScored.com.

Chambers is a hard-working player who can also slot into a centre-back or a midfield role. He commits to challenges without hesitation, racking up seven yellows and one red card in 23 Premier League appearances for the side last season, as recorded by WhoScored.com. Like so many under Wenger's tutelage, he promises to have a successful future.

The youngster is destined to be a key player for the England under-21s at the upcoming European Championship, with the Three Lions' first match, against Portugal, taking place on June 18.
