September 10 Team PPR Mock Draft Board
The fantasy football season is fast approaching and for all of you that haven't drafted your 10 team PPR league team, this mock draft is for you.
Below I have a link to our mock drafts for point per reception league play from July and August. If you like you can click on the link and see where different players have gone as the season has drawn closer.
After the monthly mock draft postings, I have selected a player(s) from each of the first three rounds of your September mock to talk about.
July 12 Team PPR League Mock Draft Board
August 10 Team PPR League Mock Draft Board
First Round: Moss and Fitzgerald Go Fourth and Fifth Overall
Both of these receivers are very talented and are the top receivers on many draft boards coming into this season. No doubt these players have more value in a PPR league as opposed to a standard league.
With that being said I still believe it is way too high to take a receiver in the middle of a PPR draft. Sure a guy like Randy Moss or Larry Fitzgerald may catch 80 to 100 balls this season but a running back like Steve Slaton or Chris Johnson may catch 60.
Point is that talented running backs should always get top billing at the start to middle of just about every fantasy draft.
I could see if a fantasy owner has a late pick in the first round and takes a receiver, knowing that they will get a pick early in the next round. To take a receiver and not have a guarantee that you can get a stud runner in the second round to me is suicide.
Second Round: Carolina Panthers Running Back DeAngelo Williams
It will be interesting to see just when Jonathan Stewart will get back to playing football and just how effective he can be, when he does. Right now fantasy owners that have DeAngelo Williams should feel good as he will no doubt be the main runner this season.
Stewart has bee troubled by injuries so far in his career and I'm not sure if he can come back from his achilles problem right away.
For the time being Williams value in my mind is still hurt by the fact that he does not catch many passes and Stewart is always a threat to steal touchdowns. In the coming week we should know more about Stewart's status for the Panthers first contest of the season.
Third Round: Clinton Portis or Ronnie Brown?
In the first three picks of the third round Clinton Portis (first pick) and Ronnie Brown (third pick) were selected. For my money I would have drafted Brown over Portis in a PPR league because I believe Brown will have more receptions this season.
Last year Portis dropped down to 28 receptions and it looks like the Redskins are set on using Ladell Betts in passing situations this year. Look for this situation to in fact play out as Portis broke down in the second half of last season and I'm sure Washington will want him effective all year.
Brown on the other hand is in a contract year and always seems to post around 35 receptions every year. In his 2007 season in which he only played half of the year he had 39 catches.
Brown has already flashed his abilities through the air this preseason as he had a very nice 28 yard touchdown catch in the second week against the Panthers. Take Brown and enjoy a career year from this one time second overall pick at the NFL draft.
