How BYU Beat OU: Besides Brent Venables Weakness at Coaching
Seriously, this BYU loss was all on Brent Venables.
He cannot coach the secondary. I already wrote an article about this, but Max Hall threw for over 300 yards, and our DBs were made to look dumb. We could not cover the TE (remember the Florida game with Aaron Hernandez destroying us?) and I don't blame it on the players. It's the scheming.
This has gone on ever since Mike Stoops left. I don't want to ran more about this but feel free to check out my previous article http://bleacherreport.com/articles/39684-oklahoma-football-why-is-defensive-coordinator-brent-venables-not-fired-yet. He still cannot land a head coaching job because he is weak candidate.
I want to give a break down of how BYU beat Oklahoma:
#1: OU has no goto WR. Adrian Tennell had so many drop passes, why not just have a sticker and call him butter fingers. We should probably put some tar on his hands.
#2: OU's o-line had so many miscues: How many times did we hear #70 get called for false start or holding, especially at the most crucial moments. When Landry Jones came in, he had 2 holding calls go against him on the first play of each drive. That is pathetic.
#3: Last drive with 3 minutes left, why did we not pound them with our run game more. We needed 35 yards. We had 2 backs who were piling yardage. Go Figure.
#4: 4th and 14 and kicking a 54 yard field goal? Freshman Kicker? Come on. We can get pass interference calls if need be.
All in all, we just got out coached. It's the players fault and the coaches fault. The WR were not holding on to the passes, and the offensive line kept on holding and false starts. I'm not surprised Brent Venables got out-coached yet again.
