
Green Bay Packers: Players Who Have Won the NFL MVP Award
In 1957, the NFL established the Associated Press Most Valuable Player Award. Since that time, five Green Bay Packers have won that award.
The players are Paul Hornung, Jim Taylor, Bart Starr, Brett Favre and Aaron Rodgers. Favre won the award three times, while Rodgers has won the award twice.
Before 1957, the NFL awarded the Joe F. Carr Trophy to it's most valuable player. Don Huston won that award twice.
In the 10 times the Packers have had a player win the NFL MVP award, the team has won the NFL title or Super Bowl four times.
Let's take a look at the years the players won the award and what their statistics were in that season.
Quarterback Aaron Rodgers

NFL MVP in 2011 and 2014
In 2011, Rodgers threw 45 touchdown passes versus six interceptions for 4,643 yards. No. 12's passer rating was 122.5.
Rodgers also rushed for 257 yards and three more scores.
In 2014, Rodgers threw 38 touchdown passes versus just five picks for 4,381 yards. Rodgers' passer rating was 112.2.
The former California Golden Bear also rushed for 269 yards and two more touchdowns.
Rodgers was named to the Pro Bowl in both 2011 and 2014, plus he was a first-team All-Pro in both of those seasons.
Quarterback Brett Favre

NFL MVP in 1995, 1996 and 1997 (shared with Barry Sanders)
In 1995, Favre threw 38 touchdown passes versus 13 interceptions for 4,413 yards. No. 4's passer rating was 99.5.
Favre also rushed for 181 yards and three touchdowns.
In 1996, Favre threw 39 touchdown passes versus 13 picks for 3,899 yards. Favre's passer rating was 95.8.
The former Southern Mississippi Golden Eagle also rushed for 136 yards and two more scores.
In 1997, Favre threw 35 touchdown passes versus 16 interceptions for 3,867 yards. The former Atlanta Falcon also rushed for 187 yards and one touchdown.
Favre was named to the Pro Bowl in all of his MVP seasons, plus he was named a first-team All-Pro in each of those years.
The Packers also won Super Bowl XXXI after the 1996 season.
Quarterback Bart Starr

NFL MVP in 1966
In 1966, Starr threw 14 touchdown passes versus just three interceptions for 2,257 yards. No. 15's passer rating was 105.0.
The former Alabama Crimson Tide star also rushed for 104 yards and two more touchdowns.
Starr was also named to the Pro Bowl in 1966, plus he was named a first-team All-Pro.
The Packers also won Super Bowl I after the 1966 season. Starr was also the MVP of that game.
Fullback Jim Taylor

NFL MVP in 1962
In 1962, Taylor rushed for 1,474 yards and scored 19 touchdowns. No. 31 averaged 5.1 yards per carry. Taylor also averaged 105.3 per game running the ball.
The former Louisiana State Tiger also caught 22 passes for 106 yards.
Taylor was named to the Pro Bowl in 1962, plus he was a first-team All-Pro.
The Packers also won the 1962 NFL title.
Halfback/Kicker Paul Hornung

NFL MVP in 1961
In 1961, Hornung rushed for 597 yards and eight touchdowns. No. 5 also caught 15 passes for 145 yards and two more scores.
The former Notre Dame Fighting Irish star was also the placekicker for the Packers and connected on 15 field goals and 41 extra points.
Overall, Hornung scored 146 points in 1961.
Hornung was not named to the Pro Bowl in 1961, but he was named a first-team All-Pro.
The Packers also won the 1961 NFL title.
Wide Receiver/Defensive Back/Kicker Don Hutson

In 1941, Hutson caught 58 passes for 738 yards and 10 touchdowns. No. 14 also rushed for 22 yards and two more touchdowns.
As a defensive back, Hutson had one interception for 32 yards.
As a kicker, Huston connected on one field goal and 20 extra points.
Overall, Hutson scored 95 points.
In 1942, the former Alabama Crimson Tide star caught 74 passes for 1,211 yards and 17 touchdowns.
As a defensive back, Hutson had seven interceptions for 71 yards.
As a kicker, Hutson connected on one field goal and 33 extra points.
Overall, Huston scored 138 points in 1942.
Hutson was named to the Pro Bowl in both 1941 and 1942, plus he was a first-team All-Pro in each of those years as well.
