Ryback vs. Big Show: Winner and Reaction from 2015 WWE Money in the Bank

Mike ChiariJun 14, 2015

Ryback entered Money in the Bank with a ton of momentum after winning the Intercontinental Championship at Elimination Chamber, but his celebration was short-lived, as he fell to Big Show Sunday night.

It was The Miz who caused a DQ on Ryback, handing Big Show the win:

But Ryback retains the Intercontinental Championship due to the disqualification. At one point Ryback threw The Miz as he was talking with the announcers:

Despite holding on to the belt, WrestlingInc.com believed this may have halted the momentum of Ryback:

The Big Guy has endured an up-and-down career in WWE, but winning the IC title was undoubtedly among his greatest accomplishments. It marked his first championship of any kind in WWE, and it also firmly established his status as one of the top midcard faces in the company.

Ryback was among the hottest commodities in WWE a couple of years ago, but after multiple losses to CM Punk and an ill-advised heel turn, he fell down the card significantly. He started to regain steam when he turned face again after returning from injury late last year, and he has enjoyed a steady uphill climb since then.

Winning the Intercontinental Championship was a culmination of that, and it was clear Ryback was thrilled to join the ranks of the elite Superstars who have held the prestigious title over the years, according to WWE Universe:

Big Show was already part of that list, but he set out take back the Intercontinental Championship. After losing to Roman Reigns at Extreme Rules, the World's Largest Athlete was absent from both Payback and Elimination Chamber before returning on the Raw after Ryback's signature victory.

Ryback was scheduled to defend the IC title against another former champion in The Miz, but Big Show interfered by knocking out the challenger and establishing himself as the No. 1 contender.

While Ryback is among the biggest and strongest Superstars in WWE, Big Show made it clear that he couldn't measure up:

Since a large portion of WWE's fanbase has seemingly grown tired of Big Show due to overexposure and the notion he is taking up spots that could be occupied by younger Superstars, having Ryback feud with him solidifies the crowd support behind the Big Guy.

Ryback is a Superstar known for his strength and power, and while that didn't work to his advantage at Money in the Bank, it is tough to envision him not ultimately coming out on top in this rivalry.

Big Show is best used as an experienced Superstar who puts others over at this juncture of his career, and that figures to be the case by the time his angle with Ryback is all said and done.
