Seahawks Reportedly Trying to Sign Wagner to Extension
Monday, June 8
Ian Rapoport of NFL.com has more on talks between Seattle and Wagner:
Wagner has made himself an instrumental part of Seattle's defense since being selected with the 47th overall pick in the 2012 draft. In his three seasons with the team, he's accumulated 428 tackles, nine sacks and five interceptions. He was both an Associated Press first-team All-Pro linebacker in 2014 and was also a Pro Bowl selection.
NFL players also voted him as the 69th-best player in the league in the NFL Network's Top 100 Players series.
Without question, a team's franchise quarterback will always be prioritized over a linebacker, but Wagner has proven to be an impact player in his three years with Seattle. The Seahawks would likely prefer to finish a long-term deal with Wilson and have the ability to franchise Wagner as a negotiating ploy in long-term talks with the linebacker, but signing him to a deal if the Wilson extension cannot be ironed out before the season starts will be crucial.
Regardless, expect both Wilson and Wagner to be Seahawks for many years to come.
