Alabama Football Recruiting Offers of the Week

Marc TorrenceJun 8, 2015

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — Alabama was expected to build a lot of momentum at its first of two summer football camps and didn’t disappoint.

The Crimson Tide got five commitments by the time the week was over and sent out 12 offers in the last seven days, helping to kick-start what had been a stagnant 2016 class and lay the foundation for an already impressive 2017 group.

Of course, Alabama did some work during the week after the camp was over. Nick Saban may have spent some time on the lake with his players, but that doesn’t mean the recruiting stopped.

Let’s take a look at some of Alabama’s offers of the week.

Netori Johnson, 2017 4-star offensive tackle from Ellenwood, Georgia

One of Alabama’s camp offers committed right on the spot, giving Alabama a critical offensive line piece for its 2017 class.

Netori Johnson was camping at Alabama when Nick Saban offered him a scholarship, and he pledged then and there.

"As soon as Nick Saban told me I had an offer, I asked him if I could commit, and that's what I did," Johnson told 247Sports’ Shane Youngblood. "I came down here with my coaches, not knowing this was going to happen. I went all out and tried my best. I love the environment and the coaches. They have a very good coaching staff that stayed on me and didn't let me get tired or let me down. They send linemen to the draft, so this was a no-brainer."

Johnson was Alabama’s second commitment of the day after Mississippi receiver D.D. Bowie accepted an offer from the team.

Johnson could play guard or tackle for Alabama. He’s listed at both positions on his 247Sports profile page.

But the Crimson Tide weren’t done with 2017 offensive linemen just yet.

Alex Leatherwood, 2017 4-star offensive tackle from Pensacola, Florida

The day after Johnson was offered and committed, Alabama did the same thing with another offensive tackle.

On Tuesday, the Crimson Tide offered Alex Leatherwood, who committed right away like Johnson.

"I love it at Alabama," Leatherwood told 247Sports’ Ryan Bartow. "I'm very serious about football and my future. I've done my research. It's for my career, and Alabama is the place to be. They send players to the league year after year. They have great facilities. It's a great school."

Leatherwood became Alabama’s fourth commitment in the 2017 class and second offensive lineman.

Alabama will need tackles after Cam Robinson presumably jumps to the NFL after 2016.

"That's a good decision for him," Washington (Pensacola) coach Charlie Ward told Bartow. "One of Alabama's coaches called me and told me. They got a very good player. He's still raw. But he's a big guy with a great future. He's willing to learn and football is very important to him."

Tyler Shelvin, 2017 5-star defensive tackle from Lafayette, Louisiana

Alabama had an LSU commit at its camp and is making him think twice about heading to Baton Rouge.

Tyler Shelvin, one of the top players in the 2017 class, got an offer straight from Saban and may be reconsidering his decision.

“I have two more years left, so I’m weighing all my options,” Shelvin told 247Sports’ Hank South. “Bama might be my second option.”

Shelvin could be an elite defensive tackle and liked what he saw working with the coaches at camp.

“They are good coaches; they will coach you up,” Shelvin told South. “Coach Bo [Davis] will tell you everything you need to know or to do. He’ll teach how to do it and perfect it.”

Alabama has been known to snag some top Louisiana prospects out from LSU’s territory. The Crimson Tide are trying to do the same thing here with an elite defensive lineman and may be successful in the end.
