Weather: The forecast from ViewWeather.com isn't the best. Thunderstorms are common at this time of the year and the forecast suggest that at least a few should be expected across the five days of the Test.

Overview

India have sent a strong squad to Bangladesh for the one-off Test against their neighbours. After Bangladesh’s struggles against Pakistan last month, they will have to dig deep in order to get a positive result against India. While India do not exactly have the best away record, they will be expected to easily beat Bangladesh.

India have not played a Test since January last year, so they might be a little rusty, but they have a new Test captain who is keen to make an impact straight away. Virat Kohli, who took over after MS Dhoni called it a day during the Australia series, gave a blunt press conference ahead of the team’s departure on the weekend. He was quoted by ESPN Cricinfo as saying:

"

We have been playing for long enough now. Unless we want to have a vision of winning Test matches, executing our skills against the best in the world, we are falling short of the goals that we want to achieve. We know what we want to achieve as a unit, it's just the mental thing that has to be right. We have learnt in the past few Test matches and months but starting now, we want to start achieving the results that we really want, not go away from every Test match thinking about what we have learnt from it.

"

India will, however, travel without a head coach. Duncan Fletcher's tenure ended after the World Cup, but team director Ravi Shastri said that with three assistant coaches and him, there is no need for a head coach.

Meanwhile, the hosts will be desperate to prove that their struggles against Pakistan in the longest format were merely a blip. They have never beaten India in a Test, so victory might be a bridge too far. Even a draw will be incredibly difficult.

The two sides have played each other in just seven Tests and Bangladesh have lost six times, drawing just once. Add to that the fact that, according to ESPN Cricinfo, Mushfiqur Rahim is in doubt due to a finger injury, the dodgy weather that’s forecast might be the only thing that saves Bangladesh.

Key players

Bangladesh

Shakib Al Hasan played a key part with the bat during the Pakistan series and although he was dismal with the ball, Bangladesh will be hoping he can find some of his all-round form against India.

India

Not only will Virat Kohli’s captaincy be crucial, his batting form will be vital, too. Having not played any form of long-format cricket for almost six months will be a challenge for India’s captain.

Squads

Bangladesh: Mushfiqur Rahim (capt & wk), Tamim Iqbal, Imrul Kayes, Mominul Haque, Mahmudullah, Shakib Al Hasan, Soumya Sarkar, Shuvagata Hom, Taijul Islam, Mohammad Shahid, Rubel Hossain, Jubair Hossain, Litton Das, Abul Hasan

India: Virat Kohli, Ishant Sharma, Varun Aaron, Umesh Yadav, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Karn Sharma, Harbhajan Singh, Ravichandran Ashwin, Wriddhiman Saha, Rohit Sharma, Ajinkya Rahane, Cheteshwar Pujara, Shikhar Dhawan, Murali Vijay
