4 Players Real Madrid Should Clear out in 2015 Summer Transfer Window

Tim CollinsJun 7, 2015

Another season over, another summer transfer window approaching: For Real Madrid, that means another likely period of high turnover.

Indeed, under the presidency of Florentino Perez, the Spanish giants have become renowned for a revolving door of transfers, high-profile players arriving and departing more rapidly than they do almost anywhere else.

Consequently, another collection of players will soon head for the exits at the Bernabeu with a busy transfer window looming.

Across the following slides, we look at four such players.

Alvaro Arbeloa

After six seasons in the Spanish capital, it looks as though Alvaro Arbeloa's time at Real Madrid has reached its conclusion.

In 2014-15, playing time was scarce for the veteran defender, the 32-year-old making just 12 starts in La Liga as Daniel Carvajal cemented his position as Carlo Ancelotti's first-choice right-back.

Additionally, Real Madrid recently signed Brazilian full-back Danilo from Porto for £23 million, meaning there's unlikely to be room even on the bench for Arbeloa in 2015-16.

He's almost certain to depart.

Sami Khedira

The 2014-15 season was one of frustration for Sami Khedira.

After returning from injury to start in Real Madrid's Champions League final clash with Atletico Madrid last May, the German enjoyed an impressive World Cup campaign but then returned to Madrid to find himself behind Toni Kroos, James Rodriguez, Isco and Luka Modric in Carlo Ancelotti's midfield pecking order.

A number of injuries put more interruptions in the 28-year-old's campaign, seeing the former midfield stalwart make just three league starts for the season.

Khedira has even recently said that he was "frozen out" at the Bernabeu this year, per the Guardian, and looks set to join Juventus once the summer transfer window opens.

Denis Cheryshev

3 of 4

On loan from Real Madrid at Villarreal in 2014-15, Denis Cheryshev enjoyed undoubtedly the best season of his senior career at Estadio El Madrigal.

Playing in the attractive, up-tempo outfit crafted by manager Marcelino Garcia Toral, the Russian was a potent force for the Yellow Submarine, operating as a hard-running and disciplined winger. In 39 appearances in all competitions, Cheryshev scored seven goals and notched 10 assists.

But despite his impressive campaign, it seems unlikely that new manager Rafa Benitez will have room for the club's academy product in a star-studded forward setup led by Cristiano Ronaldo, Karim Benzema and Gareth Bale—a trio that forced fellow forwards Jese and Javier Hernandez to spend the bulk of the season on the bench.

A move away, therefore, seems logical for Cheryshev, and AS reports that Liverpool could be prepared to bid between €15-20 million for the 24-year-old—an offer that would be tough to turn down.

Keylor Navas

4 of 4

When he was signed by Real Madrid for €10 million last summer, Keylor Navas looked almost certain to be a prominent figure at the Bernabeu in 2014-15.

After a sparkling 2013-14 season with Levante, the Costa Rican goalkeeper was one of the World Cup's standout players in Brazil, making his signature a coveted one among Europe's glovemen.

But Navas didn't enjoy the season he would have liked in the Spanish capital, largely watching from the sideline as Iker Casillas, despite several patches of indifferent form, held down the No. 1 goalkeeping position under Carlo Ancelotti.

And the situation is unlikely to change for Navas in 2015-16, with Real Madrid expected to sign Manchester United's David de Gea this summer. Marca reported the Spaniard has said goodbye to his team-mates at Old Trafford.

And given that moving on Casillas remains a political minefield at the Bernabeu, Navas would appear to be the more likely keeper to depart to make room for De Gea.
