Ohio State Football Recruiting Offers of the Week

David RegimbalJun 7, 2015

Ohio State has been reaping the rewards of its national title victory on the recruiting trail, and on Sunday, Urban Meyer hauled in a commitment from one of his top targets in 4-star wide receiver Austin Mack.

Mack became the 16th member of the Buckeyes' 2016 recruiting class, which solidified their No. 2 ranking behind Florida State.

But Mack's pledge didn't completely satisfy Ohio State's big need for wide receivers. That's why Meyer's first offer of the week went out to a highly coveted pass-catcher who's currently committed to an SEC school.

Here's a recap of Ohio State's latest recruiting activity.

Daniel Crowell, 3-Star Wide Receiver (2016)

The Buckeyes had Ole Miss commit Daniel Crowell in Columbus for an unofficial visit last Monday, and the 3-star prospect came away with an offer from the reigning national champs:

Crowell was impressed during his visit and made specific mention of Ohio State wide receivers coach Zach Smith.

"Everything was 100 percent, on top of everything,"Crowell told Jeremy Birmingham of Eleven Warriors. "I spent a lot of time talking to Smith and he was a fun guy to be around, and I can tell he's about the business."

The Buckeyes are clearly making pass-catchers a priority for their 2016 class after taking just two perimeter receivers in 2015. They're hot on the trails of the nation's top receiver in 5-star Nate Craig-Myers, and they're also pursuing 4-star standouts Binjimen Victor and Donnie Corley.

But Crowell has been tabbed as a guy Meyer wants to pursue, and he'll be battling hard to steal him away from Hugh Freeze and Ole Miss.

"They'd like me to come back this summer, and that's definitely a possibility," Crowell said, via Birmingham. "Ohio State and Ole Miss will definitely be a battle for me."

Jaelen Gill, Unranked Running Back (2018)

Ohio State's 2018 recruiting efforts are already taking shape, and on Wednesday, Jaelen Gill became the 11th soon-to-be sophomore prospect to receive an offer from the Buckeyes:

Ohio State joined a group that included Kentucky, Penn State, Pittsburgh and Tennessee earlier this week. On Thursday, Michigan State also joined in on his recruitment.

Gill was a dynamic playmaker for Westerville South High School—located just north of Columbus—as he lined up on the perimeter at wide receiver and in the backfield as a running back. At 6'0" and 165 pounds, he has the length to make plays in traffic and the speed to run away from a defense.

With Gill playing in their backyard, the Buckeyes are shaping up as the early favorites.

Ohio State is a unanimous favorite to land his commitment, according to 247Sports' crystal ball, but with nearly two-and-a-half years to go before national signing day in 2018, Gill's recruitment is just getting started.
