New Orleans Saints Bring in Gresham for Visit
Wednesday, June 4
Head coach Sean Payton confirmed the New Orleans Saints brought the Gresham in for a visit and said the decision would come down to whether or not the tight end was a fit, via Katherine Terrell of NOLA.com.
Gresham had his ups and downs in five years with the Cincinnati Bengals, but he made the Pro Bowl twice and was always a solid security blanket for quarterback Andy Dalton.
Because of that, some thought that a return to Cincinnati could be in the cards. Per SiriusXM NFL Radio, the former University of Oklahoma standout hoped to stay put:
According to Paul Dehner Jr. of the Cincinnati Enquirer, that possibility was nixed when the Bengals drafted tight ends Tyler Kroft and C.J. Uzomah to go with Tyler Eifert:
"TE was position #Bengals had to add depth and have made that happen. The door to Jermaine Gresham return was closed long ago. Bolted now.

That means Gresham must now look elsewhere, and New Orleans certainly isn't a bad option. With Jimmy Graham now playing for the Seattle Seahawks, the Saints have a need at tight end, as Benjamin Watson is the likely starter.
New Orleans may have to ease Gresham in after he underwent surgery to repair a herniated disc in his back, but he could be a useful weapon in the Saints' high-powered offense.
Drew Brees has always relied heavily on his tight ends, and Gresham would add depth to a position that now looks quite thin with Graham no longer in the fold.
The tight end position has become increasingly important in the NFL, and while Gresham hasn't necessarily lived up to his potential, he is certainly good enough to be on a roster when the 2015 season commences.
