2015 Belmont Stakes: TV and Live Stream Info for Post Positions Draw

Chris RolingJun 3, 2015

Post position means more at the Belmont Stakes than any other leg of the Triple Crown stretch, hence the heightened importance of Wednesday's draw.

Inside near the rail or right on it is the most desirable positioning in horse racing's marathon, as it keeps the distance true as opposed to a horse who lines up on the outside and has to cover more ground to be in contention late.

While this year's probable field features fewer names than usual, for American Pharoah and others, post position may wind up meaning everything.

Horses With Most at Stake in Draw

Madefromlucky

When it comes to Todd Pletcher horses, Materiality tends to steal the spotlight.

This will change during the race and after if his other contestant, Madefromlucky, can draw a favorable starting spot.

Madefromlucky didn't appear in the Kentucky Derby or Preakness Stakes, but is one of those young horses just oozing potential, a notion reinforced thanks to a first-place finish in the rather long, Grade 2 Peter Pan Stakes in May.

He sounds ready for New York now:

It's not something to scoff at, as Madefromlucky is fresh and excels at longer distances.

If Pletcher's other horse nails a position near the rail, this year may feature a huge upset.

Tale of Verve

What's the big deal with the rail?

According to Belmont-Stakes.info, it's where the colts want to be. The position closest to the rail touts 23 wins, the most of any post, while No. 2 features 11 wins and No. 3 has 13.

It's enough of an advantage to make an underdog like Tale of Verve a serious threat.

The Dallas Stewart-trained horse is like Madefromlucky, absent from at least one leg but possessing enough potential that folks better know the name. After a second-place finish in the slop of Pimlico, Stewart sounds confident in his horse, as BloodHorse.com captures:

"

We've been good, but we've got to get it done. We've got to march over there and get it done. I think he's a horse that's really bred for the distance. He can take it. He's got the stamina, he's got the pedigree. I think he's got the ability, so it's going to be a real good race for him. I'm feeling real good about it.

"

Say Tale of Verve lands inside and a repeat of the Preakness happens, meaning Stewart's horse is the closest to what should be a tired American Pharoah after three races in a little more than a month.

This time around, though, it's a marathon, and there's plenty of room remaining before the finish line. The result isn't as clear as the event in Baltimore, to say the least.

Frammento

Even major underdogs stand a better chance on the inside.

This even goes for trainer Nicholas Zito's Frammento, a horse who has yet to record a win this year and wound up 11th at Churchill Downs in the deep field.

Still, so far the practice signs seem encouraging, which is a start.

"He looked great," Zito said, per Jonathan Lintner of The Courier-Journal. "They got him in 12 [seconds], 24, 48 - you can't beat that. I even got him a little quicker, but that was OK. I'm happy. It was good."

Frammento doesn't sound like the most intimidating horse, sure, but it's Zito that folks should worry about. He's not a household name like Bob Baffert, but he is a guy who had spoiled two Triple Crown bids—ruining Smarty Jones' in 2004 thanks to Birdstone and Big Brown's in 2008 thanks to the 38-1 Da' Tara, per The Courier-Journal.

Give Frammento a solid post position under the guidance of Zito and a third upset isn't out of the equation.
