Top 5 Moments from Borussia Dortmund's 2014/15 Bundesliga Season
Borussia Dortmund may have missed out on Champions League qualifications and any trophy at all this season, but there were a number of bright points in this campaign for the famous Black and Yellow support.
Jurgen Klopp leaves the club with very little to show for the past nine months of work but fans will remember a handful of games which will always bring a smile to their face.
Here are the top five moments from Dortmund's 2014/15 season.
Borussia Dortmund 2-0 Arsenal
1 of 5
Dortmund began their European campaign with a tricky home tie against Premier League giants Arsenal yet what followed was perhaps one of the best games of Klopp's season.
In a match that showed the Bundesliga side at their very best, Klopp's team managed to completely shut out the London side while scoring two goals of their own. The first coming from Ciro Immobile after an outstanding break, while the second was knocked in by Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang just three minutes later.
Dortmund passed their first Champions League test with flying colours and would go on to claim first place in the group.
Borussia Dortmund 3-0 Schalke
2 of 5
There were very few golden moments in the Bundesliga for Dortmund this season but one that will undoubtedly stand out is a win over local rivals Schalke back in February.
In the second Revierderby of the season, Klopp's team thumped their Gelsenkirchen counterparts by three goals to nil in a match that many predicted as an easy win for the Royal Blues. It was Schalke, rather than Dortmund, that were supposed to be the competent side this season.
Klopp's team may have been going through their toughest season yet but they still had time to turn on the form for their all-important derby.
Galatasaray 0-4 Borussia Dortmund
3 of 5
Following on from the opening day win over Arsenal, Dortmund's next European test would come in the form of a tricky away tie to Turkey to face Champions League hopefuls Galatasaray.
Fortunately for the German giants it was another successful match, with Aubameyang grabbing a well-earned brace within the first 20 minutes of the match before Marco Reus and Adrian Ramos put the game beyond any doubt.
Dortmund's Bundesliga form may have been wavering but their European form couldn't have been better.
Freiburg 0-3 Borussia Dortmund
4 of 5
February 7 was when Dortmund's Bundesliga season finally turned for the better. Before such a date the Black and Yellows had won just two of their last 16 league matches.
Then came a 3-0 win deep in the black forests of Freiburg and suddenly everything changed. Dortmund fans may not remember such a game with too much bother, but it was the first comprehensive win we'd seen from this side all season.
More importantly it was a game which galvanised Klopp's team and turned on the form that would ultimately drag them to seventh place in the league table. Not a great match but a notable turning point in Dortmund's season.
Bayern Munich 1-1 Borussia Dortmund
5 of 5
Perhaps the last bright moment in Dortmund's season came not in the final of the DFB Pokal cup but rather the semi-final in which they overcame Pep Guardiola's Bayern Munich side after extra time.
Former Dortmund striker Robert Lewandowski had bagged the opening goal for the home side, but after a later equaliser from Aubameyang, the game went to extra time and then penalties.
Dortmund ultimately won after the Munich side missed all four of their own spot-kicks. A truly bizarre end to a tight affair between these two sides.
