Along with Perez, Cain, Mike Moustakas and Alcides Escobar leading at their positions, Eric Hosmer is within striking distance of Miguel Cabrera at first base, Omar Infante is in second place at second base behind Jose Altuve, Kendrys Morales is in second place at designated hitter and Alex Gordon and Alex Rios are both top-five vote-getters in the outfield.
It isn't surprising that the team has so many contenders to be voted into the game. As of publication, the defending American League champions were 29-19 and had the fourth-best winning percentage (.604) in baseball.
Perez and Cain, meanwhile, have been very good this season. Perez is hitting .281 with six home runs and 25 RBI, while Cain is hitting .297 with three home runs, 20 RBI, 35 runs scored and nine stolen bases.
As a whole, however, the Royals look like one of the most balanced teams in baseball and continue to win behind a strong starting pitching staff, an excellent bullpen, great fielding and timely hitting. It would be pretty surprising if they weren't well-represented at this year's All-Star Game.
And given the voting to this point, it looks as though Kansas City will indeed be raiding the Great American Ball Park in Cincinnati, Ohio.
