Gwen Jorgensen Undergoes 3-Hour Drug Test After 10th World Series Triathlon Win

Timothy RappJun 1, 2015

Gwen Jorgensen celebrated her 10th straight win in the World Triathlon Series Sunday, this time conquering the London course, by spending three hours after the race taking a drug test.

She posted about the test after the race on her Twitter account:

Jorgensen clearly didn't seem all that bothered by having to take such a lengthy test, one that lasted longer than it took her to complete the race (55 minutes, 45 seconds). Given the issues running events have had in the past with doping, it isn't all that surprising that Jorgensen would be targeted amid such an amazing win streak.

What made her win even more incredible is that, according to Nick Zaccardi of Olympic Talk, she won despite "International Triathlon Union commentators reporting she suffered from the flu or flu-like symptoms last week."

Competing in a triathlon is grueling enough. Winning a triathlon is hugely impressive. But winning a triathlon—your 10th in a row, mind you, a World Triathlon Series record for men and women—despite battling illness the week before is just out of this world.

It will be fascinating to see how long Jorgensen can extend her streak. She now has 13 wins in 29 series races and will certainly be considered among the favorites at the 2016 Rio Olympics.

Up next, however, will be the next race in the series in Hamburg, Germany, on July 18, where Jorgensen will look to extend her epic streak.
