Why Arsene Wenger May Regret Not Buying Klaas-Jan Huntelaar
Arsene Wenger's Arsenal started the season with two convincing league wins and comfortable champions league victories over Celtic. All seemed well for Arsenal until they met Manchester United. Playing the new 4-3-2-1 formation they used Eboue and Arshavin in behind Robin Van Persie.
The problem with this is that Eboue is not a goal scorer or a playmaker and is a waste of an attacking spot. Robin Van Persie who led the league in assists last year and is leading it again this year would be perfect because he can link with the front man or shoot from distance. With Fabregas out Van Persie could have taken up the creative responsibilities. Instead Robin Van Persie was played as striker were his great passing was not used and his lack of strength is shown.

Arsene Wenger had two striker alternatives to Robin Van Persie
Nicklas Bendtner- The 6 foot 4 Striker had an improved season last year. He would add an aerial threat but there are doubts if he has enough quality for Arsenal. He would be a decent option at striker because it wouldn't have required spending. The problem is they would not make any progress with him at striker in the league or champions league.
Eduardo- Wouldn't have the same physical presence as Bendtner but has much more technique and could be expected to score more. The problem is that after the horror injury he cannot be counted on for a full season and even when fit like against Manchester United Arsene Wenger still plays Van Persie Upfront.
It is clear to me that after losing Adebayor they needed to buy a new striker and with the aformentioned stiker and toure being sold they should have had the money to do it.
That is where they should have snatched up Klaas-Jan Huntelaar. He has good height and is very good at scoring headers. Has his doubters mainly due to a lack of pace but Arsenal has that. A player that could take advantage of all of the chances Arsenal create. Milan signed him for 15 Million a price that is very fair for a 25 year old striker that Van Gaal described as "In the box, he is the best player in the world, bar none"
I think
Sagna-Vermealen-Gallas-Clichy
-Denilson-Fabregas-Song
-Van Persie--Arshavin
--Klaas-Jan Huntelaar
would have been a stronger first eleven that what they have now.
Time will tell if Van Persie with all his quality can become succesful as a lone striker but unless a deal is done in January I predict that most of europe's big gones wont be afraid of letting Arsenal throw the ball into the box just to bully Robin Van Persie. *
