Talent Wise: Strike Force Vs. UFC

Joshua BoykenSep 4, 2009

Sales are obviously on UFC's side so I'm not going to even bring that up, it is not relevant.

I will go weight class by weight class and pick which fighter would win in that fight. If there is not a champion I will select the number one contender in the division.

The womens weight class is very talented I do believe, yet UFC does not have a womens weight class therefore it will also be left out.

Light-weight

Josh Thompson vs. BJ Penn

Josh Thompson is as well known as his former and future foe Gilbert Melendez and Josh has defeated Hlbert so I decided to choose the champion. He is actually a Strikeforce veteran with wins over Duane Ludwig, Gilbert Melendez, and the most recent Ashe Bowman.

His only two loses coming to Yves Edwards and Clay Guida. He has also fought in the octagon twice with a record of 1-1.

BJ Penn requires no introduction. He is highly regarded as top five p4p in the world. With wins over Matt Hughes, Jens Pulver, Sean Sherk, Joe Stevenson, and most recently Kenny Florian. He is the best world wide in this division, yet has struggled with cardio, but seems to be getting in under control with new strength and conditioning coach.

BJ wins by TKO 2nd round

Welterweight

Georges St. Pierre vs. Jake Shields

GSP is the best p4p in the world unless you bring up Anderson Silva or possibly Fedor.

He has defeated the greatest fighters in the world and has beat almost every contender in the division. He holds big wins over Jon Fitch, Matt Hughes 2,3, Matt Serra 2 (If this counts as a big win), Thiago Alves, BJ Penn 1,2, Sean Sherk, and then Josh Koscheck.

He has only two loses when being caught by a punch by Serra in a thrilling upset, or being caught in a brilliant armbar at the buzzer against Matt Hughes.

Jake Shields may be less known than GSP, but isn't at all less talented. He, in my opinion, is one if not the best Welterweight in the world.

Now let me finish before you go check who he has beat. He has submitted Jon Fitch in a jiujitsu tournament, yes I said Jon Fitch and it was a choke. He has also out wrestled Diego Sanchez in a wrestling tournament. Both fighters were once big time contenders in the UFC. Jake Shield professionally has defeated Dave Menne, Yushin Okami, Carlos Condit, Mike Pyle, Nick Thompson, and most recently Robbie Lawler.

This is a war by GSP would most likely pull it out with a SD or close UD

Middleweight

Cung Le vs. Anderson Silva

Cung Le is a young old fighter only 6-0 professionally, yet he is 37 years old. He has won several kickboxing tournaments though. His biggest professionaly win is his most recent against Rank Shamrock. He has also defeated notable fighters like Jason Von Flue and Sammy Morgan.

Anderson Silva, enough said. He is the p4p champ, dominating two divisions at once. He has a long list of big fight victories against Chris Leben, Rich Franklin 1,2, Nate Marquardt, Dan Henderson, James Irvin, and Forrest Griffin. He has finished every single one of those fights.

Anderson Silva TKO 1st

Light-Heavyweight

Lyoto Machida vs. Gerard Mousasi

Lets get this straight Gerard Mousasi is a bad man with his recent destruction of former UFC contender Babalu. He really donesn't have any other notable wins unless you're into DREAM, where he defeated Mark Hunt, Dennis Kang, and Ronaldo Souza.

Lyoto Machida is the new Anderson Silva, although they are best friends.

Machida in his short four fight span in the UFC he is already regarded as one of the p4p best. With his marque wins over Sokoudjou, Tito Ortiz, and Rashad Evans. Machida has also won against UFC champions other than Tito and Rashad. He has defeated Rich Franklin and yes BJ Penn. He has beat several big names of the sport that people really just don't hear about.

Machida UD if not mid round TKO

Heavyweight

Fedor Emilianenko vs. Brock Lesnar

As much as I dislike Brock Lesnar I think he would win this fight, because he is so large. I also believe that Shane Carwin and Todd Duffee have a good chanche of defeating Brock Lesnar, because they are very big. Randy Couture, Nogueria, and Frank Mir are the others that might have a chance, and I said 'might' and 'chance'.

All of that aside Fedor is very well known fighter. He has defeated former UFC champs like Tim Sylvia, Andrei Arlovski, and Nogueria. He has also defeated Ricardo Arona, Heath Herrig, and many many more. He is one of the best p4p in the world.

Brock Lesnar is not one of my favorite fighters. I believe he is immature and needs to become a mixed martial artist not a wrestler from WWE. He has terrible stand up skills he just hits real hard, yet he is probably the one of the best wrestlers in MMA today.

He is very strong and can control you from almost any position. He has wins over Randy Couture, Frank Mir, and Heath Herring. He did not deserve a title shot when he got it, but he has proved that he is champ after demolishing Frank Mir.

P.S. Mir—Lesnar II was all Lesnar on the ground, but watch the beginning of the second round Mir caught him with some good shots. Was he rocked? From his facial expressions and staggering I would say yes, but I will never know.

Lesnar wins by TKO 2nd

By the way Lesnar has apologized and I have forgiven him, yet his display after the Mir fight is disliked even by WWE fans, no one likes to see what he did out there.

Lesnar will be fighting Carwin also soon, It'll be a good fight yet Brock is my pick to win.

Fedor will be fighting Brett Rodgers and he wil also win that fight in which will be a real awkward fight.

UFC 5-0 yes they are the most talented group of MMA fighters in the world today.
