Manchester United Transfer News: Bastian Schweinsteiger and Dante Bids Rumoured
Manchester United have made "concrete transfer offers" for Bayern Munich duo Bastian Schweinsteiger and Dante, according to Will Giles of Metro, who cites reports in Germany.
"Both Schweinsteiger and Dante could be ushered out as part of the (Bayern) revamp," writes Giles, who indicates former club boss Louis van Gaal may explore the Bundesliga market during the summer.
Van Gaal recently admitted he is looking to land "two players for every position," reported by Ben Hibbs and Stewart Gardner of United's official website.

Schweinsteiger remains a top-quality midfielder—someone who could provide a battle-hardened alternative to Michael Carrick—while Dante's physical power may translate well to a stint in the Premier League.

Kicker's coverage of the story signals an intention to sign Dante but not Schweinsteiger, as translated by Sport Witness:
Schweinsteiger recently refused to discuss transfer rumours, reported by ESPN (h/t Charles Perrin of the Express): "I am under contract until 2016. I won't comment on it."

At 30 years old and with one season remaining on his current deal, the midfielder could be snapped up for a reasonable price.
Van Gaal had a great influence on Schweinsteiger's career during his time at the Allianz Arena—helping him develop into a world-class midfielder—and would likely push him straight into his United lineup.
Dante has two years remaining on his contract, per Transfermarkt.co.uk, but he has failed to remain a consistent first-team player for Pep Guardiola's side.
He made 21 starts and six substitute appearances en route to Bayern's Bundesliga success in the 2014-15 campaign, recorded by WhoScored.com, but he hasn't proved to be a particularly reliable centre-back in recent times.
The Brazilian is slow on the turn and has a tendency to commit petty fouls, but his ball-playing skills and aerial dominance would fit in with what Van Gaal needs.
United have continually been linked with Borussia Dortmund's Mats Hummels this summer, reported by Jack Wilson of the Daily Star, but Dante could be an acceptable alternative.
Bleacher Report UK's Sam Tighe recently looked at other defensive possibilities for Van Gaal:
United's back line continued to leak goals during the recently finished campaign, whether Van Gaal played three or four in front of David De Gea.
The manager ideally needs multiple defensive reinforcements—at least one centre-back and a full-back on either side—to move closer to champions Chelsea.
Dante wouldn't be enough on his own to adequately thrust United up the league, but Schweinsteiger would be an excellent midfield addition.
Van Gaal knows the German market well, so we can expect Bundesliga links to continue throughout the summer.
