How Boxing Will Defeat MMA Sept. 19
First of all, all the writers who are saying boxing is too far gone, are 100 percent wrong.
Every mega boxing event that occurs people lust to see -- especially when Mayweather Jr. is facing off against Marquez who has all of Mexico begging for a victory.
First, let's look at the best fights on the card and compare them, starting with Josh Koscheck (12-4)v. Frank Trigg (19-6) and Zab Judah (37-6) vs. Antonio Diaz (46-5-1). I firmly believe that Trigg and Koscheck could be the dark horses for fight of the night if the action stays on their feet, which it most likely won't.
Both have decent punching power with a lot of strength for takedowns. Judah is a former champ, but has been really off since his losses to Baldomir. This could be Judah's fight to get back to the top, yet he is not a very exciting fighter. Both fights have a lack of excitment yet both also could be the best fights on the card.
Koscheck vs. Trigg I would say is the better fight to watch.
Secondly, Mike Swick (14-2)) vs. Martin Kampmann (15-2) and Michael Katsidis (25-2) vs. Vicente Escobedo (21-1). Both of these fights are literally made for excitement. These fights will probably both be fight of the night unless there is a early knockout. All of the best MMA fights are stand up wars. If you like those you can tune in to the Boxing PPV and watch Katsidis in a stand up war. Katsidis has been compared to the new Gatti of the sport and will prove that on September 19.
Katsidis vs. Escobedo will be more dramatic and fun to watch yet Swick and Kampmann will be a great fight.
Thirdly, Mirko Cro Cop (25-6-2 1 NC) vs. Junior Dos Santos (8-1) and Rocky Juarez (28-4-1) vs. Chris John (42-0-2) II. The first John and Juarez fight ended in a controversial draw, yet very exciting fight. The Mirko Cro Cop fight is going to be boring unless there is an amazing knock out, so you can take the risk. Juarez vs. John is guaranteed excitement, although I do expect a UD for one of the fighters.
Juarez vs. John II is the much more intriguing matchup. Cro Cop and Dos Santos won there last fights, but Cro Cop literally fought a nobody and Dos Santos won his first big fight -- and by devastating knock out, I might add. I do not believe it will be a quality fight though.
Now for the main event: Rich Franklin (25-4 1NC)vs. Vitor Belfort (18-8) and Floyd Mayweater Jr. (39-0) vs. Juan Manuel Marquez (50-4-1). First of all, Rich Franklin is my all-time favorite fighter. I think he is has the most underrated jiu-jitsu in mma (He has a brown belt under Jorge Gurgel). Floyd Mayweather Jr. is the best at hyping his own fights and Juan Manuul Marquez is the best at filling all the hype in.
Belfor-Franklin is a very intriguing match. You have the comeback of Vitor Belfort and then another step up the ladder to a title shot for Franklin. Both fighters love to bang it out and both carry punching power. I see this fight being similar to Silva-Franklin. I can see Franklin winning a UD yet he has to stay away from the speed and power of Belfort.
Mayweather Jr. vs. Marquez is a fight that all of Mexico will buy and most of Central America. Then add the thousands of Americans buying and you got a whole lot of people. A mega boxing event pushed any event that day out of its way. This fight will be seen by more people than UFC 103.
Why? Because Mayweather Jr, is too well known and Marquez has a huge following in Mexico. People still want to see Mayweather Jr. get his face smashed. People don't give up on Boxing, even though Boxing has gave up on us several times.
These last two main event fights are a draw so Boxing will win 2-1-1
I will be watching UFC 103, for Rich Franklin and Rich Franklin alone.
winners of the night will be:
Floyd Mayweather Jr, Rich Franklin, Cro Cop, John, Swick, Katsidis, Koscheck, and Judah.
And Boxing will win by Knockout over UFC 103.
