Fernandez appeared in only eight games in 2014 but was the National League Rookie of the Year and an All-Star in 2013 with a 2.19 ERA, 0.98 WHIP and 187 strikeouts in 172.2 innings. He underwent Tommy John surgery in May 2014.
Fernandez is only 22 years old and will be the future ace of this rotation for years to come, and the Marlins could use his talents to help salvage what is left of the season. With the Marlins sitting 10.5 games out of first in the division with a 33-46 record and a team ERA sitting 18th in the league, Fernandez can't get back soon enough.
The Marlins need him healthy if they hope to compete next year and beyond.
