Fantasy Baseball Free Agent Pool: Strikeout Kings

Here are some reasonably available players to assist you in the strikeouts category of a rotisserie league. Realize that some of these will come with high ERAs and WHIPs because if a pitcher has low numbers in those categories and a good K total, they’re already spoken for. 

Some of these guys are middle relievers, who can help you make up ground if you are beginning to max out in innings pitched.

Brian Duensing, Minnesota Twins

Duensing had 15 strikeouts in 14 innings (9.6 K/9 ratio) last week while going 1-0 with a 0.64 ERA and a 0.79 WHIP. On the year he’s 2-1 with 40 strikeouts (54.1 IP), a 3.81 ERA, and a 1.31 WHIP. He’s owned in 9 percent of Yahoo! Plus, 2 percent of Yahoo! Public, 0.8 percent of ESPN, and 14 percent of CBS Sports leagues.

Marc Rzepczynski, Toronto Blue Jays

Marc had nine strikeouts in six innings (13.5 K/9) last week with a 4.50 ERA and a 1.67 WHIP. On the year he’s 2-4 with 60 strikeouts (61.1 IP), a 3.67 ERA, and a 1.32 WHIP. He’s owned in 23 percent of Yahoo! Plus, 5 percent of Yahoo! Public, 1.9 percent of ESPN, and 16 percent of CBS Sports leagues.

Denny Bautista

Since getting called up, Bautista has eight strikeouts in six innings (12 K/9) with a 0.00 ERA, a 0.50 WHIP, and a .105 BAA. He’s owned in less than 1 percent of Yahoo! Plus, Yahoo! Public, ESPN, and CBS Sports leagues.

Brian Matusz, Baltimore Orioles

Matusz had eight strikeouts in seven innings (10.3 K/9) last week while going 1-0 with a 1.29 ERA and a 0.71 WHIP. On the year, the up-and-coming rookie is 3-2 with 31 Ks (30.1 IP), a 5.28 ERA, and a 1.73 WHIP. He’s owned in 17 percent of Yahoo! Plus, 3 percent of Yahoo! Public, 1.3 percent of ESPN, and 34 percent of CBS Sports leagues.

Franklin Morales, Colorado Rockies

Franklin had seven strikeouts in 4.1 innings (14.5 K/9) last week with one save, one hold, a 6.23 ERA, and a 0.69 WHIP. He could earn a few saves while Huston Street (biceps) is out. On the year he’s 3-0 with 31 strikeouts (30.1 IP), one save, six holds, a 2.93 ERA, and a 1.11 WHIP. He’s owned in 14 percent of Yahoo! Plus, 2 percent of Yahoo! Public, 0.6 percent of ESPN, and 8 percent of CBS Sports leagues.

Jason Motte, St. Louis Cardinals

Motte had seven strikeouts in 4.1 innings (14.5 K/9) last week with a 0.00 ERA and a 1.15 WHIP. On the year he’s 4-4 with 45 strikeouts (48.2 IP) with 15 holds, a 5.36 ERA, and a 1.50 WHIP. Hong-Chih Kuo
