French Open 2015: Sunday Results, Highlights, Scores, Recap from Roland Garros
With the first day at the French Open in the books, most of the tournament's top seeds in action remained alive and relatively unchallenged. Such is to be expected early in Grand Slams, though of course top players have been eliminated early at this tournament in the past.
Such was not the case Sunday, however, though the day wasn't completely devoid of surprising performances or upsets. Let's break down the results and highlights from Roland Garros.

Recap
As is to be expected, there wasn't too much drama Sunday at Roland Garros, as the majority of the seeded players, including No. 2 Roger Federer, cruised to victories.
Federer had little difficulty with Alejandro Falla, defeating him 6-3, 6-3, 6-4. But the day was not without incident for Federer, as a young fan made his way on the court and took a selfie with Federer during a break in the match.
After, Federer was justifiably upset, per ESPN on Twitter:
No. 5 Kei Nishikori had a little more trouble with Paul-Henri Mathieu, namely in the second set, when he had to scrap out a 7-5 win, but ultimately, Nishikori was able to put his opponent away in straight sets. Ditto for No. 8 Stan Wawrinka, who cruised to a 6-3, 6-2, 6-3 victory over Marsel Ilhan.
You can see Wawrinka below.
After, he spoke about his performance.
Other notable winners included No. 14 Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, No. 19 Roberto Bautista Agut, No. 22 Philipp Kohlschreiber and No. 24 Ernests Gulbis.
There were some casualties, however, as No. 25 Ivo Karlovic fell to Marcos Baghdatis (7-6, 6-4, 6-4) and No. 26 Guillermo Garcia-Lopez fell to Steve Johnson (6-3, 6-3, 6-7, 3-6, 6-3). Johnson's upset was particularly surprising, per SI Tennis on Twitter:
On the women's side, No. 3 Simona Halep was really tested by Evgeniya Rodina, eventually winning 7-5, 6-4. You can see her in action below:
No. 7 Ana Ivanovic, No. 13 Lucie Safarova, No. 21 Garbine Muguruza and No. 28 Flavia Pennetta also advanced.
The women's side wasn't without its share of upsets, however, as Donna Vekic knocked off No. 31 Caroline Garcia and No. 24 Shuai Peng was forced to retire.
On Monday, players like Maria Sharapova, Andy Murray, Tomas Berdych, Angelique Kerber, Carla Suarez Navarro, Venus Williams, Victoria Azarenka, Agnieszka Radwanska, Sara Errani and Sabine Lisicki, among others, will all get their tournaments underway, making it a star-studded day.
Given Sunday's action, don't be surprised if the top seeds generally make it through the first day with ease, though expect a few upsets along the way. On the clay at Roland Garros, anything can happen.
